A sneak-peek at what $60 million is getting Boise State for their north endzone remodel

Correct on the water table, its right next to the river.  It's pretty steep too, one of the reasons it traps sound well.  Would not be able to build it that steep with todays codes.  Not that that should preclude them from rebuilding.  I'm sure it is a money issue, don't know all of their budget.  The university grew/moved up too fast.  Academics, academic buildings, etc.  Everything is growing, it just takes years/decades on some fronts.

Not a water table issue, and the stadium is grandfathered in so they could connect the SEZ wings.

I like all stadium upgrades. And premium is the hot ticket.  I agree on the sidelines. They had a track for a long time. Boise fans, correct me if I'm wrong but digging down and moving closer to the field was a water table issue?

It almost seems like it would have been easier to start fresh rather than piece together improvements piece by piece which would cost the same amount of money all said and done.  Keep enough seats to keep the games going, then rebuild.

No, it’s just expensive and doesn’t increase revenue.  Better off adding premium seating and an east side sky box for that money.

Supposedly there are 250 on the waiting list for premium seating/skyboxes so the demand is more than there and is basically all pre-sold.  The bleachers generated $300k per year.  The update will generate $4.5M and there will be 7 figure profit annually after paying for the bond.   The Skycenter profits close to $2M annually after paying for it's bond.   It's all about cash flow and the AD we have gets it.  He's getting the most out of what he's got to work with.

My experience with premium seating is that it offers premiums views. I don’t see how that’s accomplished in the end zone, no matter how spacious the seating.

Don't be mad because the refs are going to need Tommy John surgeries after this poorly played game.

I wouldn't buy them if I had the coin but it sure seems like those type of field level boxes are all the rage.  Probably better than the nose bleed suites in the sky center for watching the game.

He was referring to the proposed lowering of the field several years ago, and yes, they could not due to water table.  Or at the articles I have read stated as much.  I'm not an engineer that has surveyed it, so..

Yeah, the carved out lowered bowl look is the best IMO. You don't have to tower the main structure as high above grade.

Yes, and that is incorrect. You absolutely could lower the field.

Michigan State lowered their field and the the stadium is next to the red cedar River. Like I said, it’s expensive and won’t generate revenue.

Don't get so hung up on semantics of "could not" vs "would not".  Unless you're just in an argumentative mood today.  Water table was the issue, that was the original question and he got the information he was seeking.

The question is, could it be done.

The answer is, yes!

Sky center is all about the experience, buffet, heaters in the club section, etc, etc.

When I was there the booze was just as cheap as a bar across the street.

I hear that.  Just not my style.  At least not at a football game I care about.

Sdsu is a bad example.

The financing and construction of Snapdragon occurred in a different era. Yes, they needed a new Stadium. No doubt about it. However, back then, the game was about facilities to attract the recruits, drive attendance, etc. Right after, the game changed dramatically. The money became open and the free transfer portal has killed the smaller Schools.

SDSU generating $42.84 per attendee is a false narrative. When you're only attracting 10k per game, you end up with a small gross. Boise at $26.81 per attendee x ~25k per game is bringing in more game day revenue.

Coupled with other financial advantages, Boise has risen to the top of the MW pond.

They literally began construction on the stadium 3.5 years ago.  What on earth are you talking about with this “different era” nonsense?  😂

Not all premium seating is equal. Suites, imo, are the worst if you're interested in actually watching the game. It's great for the bowl game when you're team isn't playing, but nobody is even paying attention to the game.

Club seats aren't much better. Everyone is paying attention to the game, but everyone acts like they're kids are asleep in the next room and don't want to wake them.

Loge are easily the best. Open air, you're basically the back row of the bleachers, spacious, table service, your own TV (although, they suck at replays). It's the only (current) premium seating that feels like you're a part of the game and not detached from it.

The NEZ project has a lot of positives. I personally wouldn't choose those seats (I hate watching from that angle), but you are closest to the action for premium seats. Also, with the beer garden, concourse, and the only standing room view of the field behind it, the atmosphere will likely be the best of the premium seating.

Other major pluses is the revenue and connecting the East and West side. This is especially good for the NE section, as they'll have easy access to alcohol and the better West concessions.

I don’t know man. I think suites are the best of both worlds. Not having to fight bathroom lines or concession lines. You have an inside creature comfort feel but chairback seating in the front.  I’ve never missed any action going this route.

I have regular old chair back seats but have spent a few games in the SEZ suites at Rice Eccles and Jazz games as well.

They're not for me when it comes to Boise State football. I love them for the Bowl game or Hockey games. They're awesome. But I am very invested in the game, and the suites are more for socializing. Most of the people in there are just there for the food and drinks. The game is just a byproduct. That's fine if that is what you are going for, but want to watch the ENTIRE game. I'll socialize at the tailgate before and after, but I want to watch the game.

The game changed with NIL being in the open and then unlimited transfers. Prior to that, you could attract kids with Facilities. Now, it's all about who has the money

The SDSU FB program doesn't.
