You can't spin this.  It was a TERRIBLE hire. Even if he manages to get your squad back to modicum of competence, he AND his lead assistant are not in a position to maintain it for the decade or more it takes to build a program.

You could be right, but Hutson was a terrible hire too.

We tried to hire the young up and comer from San Diego. You guys told us he was a great hire. He was absolute garbage, pulled the race card, and held our program hostage when we tried to fire him last year. Your credibility is gone. GTFOH

As for Jeff Tedford, the comparison is ridiculous on multiple levels. For one thing, Tedford had been the most successful HC in decades at a school a large step above the MWC rather than at a school three notches or so below. For another, it's noted that when Fresno hired him Tedford was 56, not 67. Oh and although I remember that a few Aztecs were very critical, speaking for myself, I thought he was a very GOOD hire.

Definitely not comparing him to Tedford. Simply pointing out two similarities. 1. He was said to be too old. 2.  The hire was bashed by most posters in this board. Tedford clearly had a much, much better resume with multiple NFL stars and a P12 COY.

As I said before, Walberg's age to me means that he will likely be a short term hire.

At the start of the 2023-24 season out of 351 D1 teams, there were only 20 head coaches over the age of 65 and only 6 over the age of 70.

Supposedly Welsh told Calipari that he was leaving before the Arkansas move was announced. And judging from reports, many coaches has already turned down the UK HC job and chose to stay at their present schools. I smell a stink in the program.

I'm just saying a Clovis Unified coach wouldn't necessarily have to be teaching to get paid a decent amount (not talking D1 coaching salaries, I'm talking normal upper middle class wages).  It's not like he was a gym teacher that was the basketball coach that you might see at a lot of public schools getting a 5 or 10 grand stipend to coach.  I'm actually curious if he taught, does anyone on the board know?

67 isn’t even odd if it’s a retread who had major success. This hire doesn’t fit the bill. 
Still hope it works out for you guys, it be nice to see Fresno have a good basketball program again.
