Idaho is never going to beat the allegations.

ok understood

but this was a male (more than one?) harassing women - revving his truck at them and yelling n word on multiple ocassions

women have to be more cautious in general, and are probably more sensitive to being bullied by a man .   they have to be cautious of personal safety.

Men are more likely to be the victim of violence than women.

I don’t have video no. But on our local radio there were reports of video and audio involved in the investigation. And there are actually about 100 witnesses. Two teams and their entourages. That’s going to be pretty rock solid I’d say.  Unless 100 people are all lying.

Also, you would think city officials would be chirping we need to verify these  claims rather than looking for people in an investigation and apologizing.

There’s been cases of false alarms and premature punishments. BYU Volleyball game last year.

But given the consistent problems in this area, I’m leaning towards the scumbags doing it.

Fair enough.

I haven't dug into it, and until I do will hold off forming an opinion on the veracity of it.

On the rest, I agree with you.

In the press conference with Barney Fife, they said they are also reviewing business camera footage in the area.  I would think just to clear their city’s name, they would have announced there is no evidence by now.

Otherwise, it’s part of the ongoing investigation. And the public isn’t privy until they’ve done all their work.

Okay, I think the story as told in the article of the OP is very believable and plausible.  A lot of the ones that later turn out to be false, have something that doesn't quite fit when the story is orignally laid out.  This one isn't like that, I'm inclined to agree.

But...

I think the bolded sentence is naive.  Way too much going on and it's way to early to form that opinion based on that.

We will have to disagree on that one.  I get that you are trying to connect all the dots, but essentially you are also questioning the integrity of many witnesses.

The final truth will come out one way or another.

About 40 witnesses, audio and video along with city officials trying to do damage control after verifying evidence.

If there’s video evidence combined with witnesses, the authorities will find out who did this. At minimum, there are grounds for assault charges. As there was a repeated event that likely included the same individual and/or members of an organization, this could also rise to the level of a hate crime. In any case, I hope they find the asshole(s) who did this and arrest them.

One more uncomfortable dynamic about the panhandle, it’s also become a mecca for MAGA and white Christian nationalist doomsday cults. As a result, the Republican Party in that region of the state has become full on extremist. In the past, the Republican Party used to distance themselves from these fringe ideologies and groups — now they full on embrace and even elevate them to elected positions and leadership roles.

For me personally, this is very sad because I’m a former Republican who grew up under the influence of the Reagan administration. I became more liberal with regard to social issues over time, which is why I gravitated toward libertarian ideology. Today’s Republican Party has become, in the pure definition of the word, fascist in that it elevates the persona of their leader to not only change the values and ideals of their party but to also overturn long-held national laws and institutions by any means necessary. AND, they’re more than enthusiastic about overlooking or ignoring the gross hypocrisy of their false-idol leader to do it.

Most of the Aryan nation left the area decades ago but there are still remnants of them still around. I used to do business up there and and ran into several. Weird people to say the least. Most of the locals up there hate them and don’t want anything to do with them.

In point of FACT...............there are FAR more Aryan Nations organizations in the State of California than ANYWHERE ELSE in the United States.    It's not even remotely close.

You don't think all political parties ignore or tolerate their more unsavory followers? There's racists in every party and every movement, it's been that way from the beginning of time.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

California is the most racist state in the Union.

Neat little trick I learned from @smltwnrckr ^^

Nice attempt at deflection.

Cali hasn't arrested any khaki pants Nazi militias wanting to participate in a Gay Pride event. So, you're probably right.

Btw, what is the Legal status on those potential gay pride recruits ?

Ignoring or tolerating bigotry isn’t great. But openly displaying it with pride is worse in my opinion.

Well this explains to me why the problem isn’t getting solved and continues to grow.

Our AD is pissed and taking a different hard line saying we should have never been there in the first place.  The NCAA has to approve all sites for the lady’s tourney. Utah had to get permission from the NCAA to move to Spokane after this happened.

This was low hanging fruit for the racists. Not too hard to plan some night time fun with intimidation and violence when you know minority women will be coming to town.

Knowing there’s problems in this area, totally bad move to have folks stay in this area. It should have never been approved.

I blame the NCAA more than anyone.

I realize it doesn’t really matter for the story, but why weren’t they staying in Spokane?

Both Mens and Womens brackets were in Spokane. Plain stupidity by the NCAA to run two events in the same small town.

It is a tough spot for the NCAA. For attendance purposes, they want the first two rounds at campus sites. I guess they could have flipped Gonzaga and Utah, but in their eyes Gonzaga earned the right to host.
I was on a committee the other day where we were discussing the same thing. Lincoln is going to bid on hosting NCAa games in 28 or 29, but we really don’t have a second arena that could be used to host the women if they earn it.

That's pretty weak for Gonzaga to host a tournament. Guess NCAA will have different thoughts from now on.

Idaho was the sponsoring University. Look at the floor logos in the corners.

Looking at the fallout of those decisions, it’s clear to me what should be a top priority rather than trying to shove a square peg through a round hole trying to accommodate the hosting team for a game rather than real life and problems.

I don’t think it’s a tough spot for the NCAA. The tough spot is now doing damage control on a macro level.

that is pathetic

Not sure why the NCAA tournament keeps selecting Spokane as a host venue when they clearly don't have the hotel space.

They could be doing this in Seattle or maybe Portland in the PNW

Venues bid to host the NCAA's. In the opening rounds, the Committee likes to use College Towns with larger Arenas. Spokane, SLC, Memphis, etc.   Whenever they play in the Delta Center, it attracts good crowds. The locals like basketball .

It seemed like the Spokane Arena had good crowds.

The Houston/T&M game in Memphis was empty. It's odd those fanbases didn't make the short trip to support their squads.

Correct. I believe the are being crybabies.

When people yell racist insults at me I just laugh a little and carry on.

This is not kindergarten. Words don't hurt.

Whole thing is ridiculous.

That is my opinion.

It was aimed at young women, many of whom were black, that are still growing into emotional maturity.

It's blatantly obvious you didn't read the article nor give a phuck about them.

You’re painting with a broad brush. I worked in that area for several years. Most of the people up there are good people. Lots of relocated  Californians in CoeurDAlene and Post Falls. There’s a fringe element that are assholes and cause trouble like anywhere else.

I came to that conclusion based on the fact they were holding a gay pride event and a woman was concerned enough to call 911 when she saw the khaki pants Nazis loading up into cargo trailers.
