Sounds exactly like the Lon Kruger situation, absolute collapse in the tournament and out of nowhere a desperate p5 program comes calling.

Yep, and despite their warts, they're both really difficult coaches to replace as mid-majors.

This would be a big gut punch for us. He's in the top tier of coaches in the conference and has built up a lot of passion across northern Nevada for the MBB program post-Muss.

Take it from a man experienced in this- it's way better to just accept any good coach is gone. Makes it so much easier to cope with.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

Chris Hill- A long time ago. When we were in the MWC said: As an AD getting coaches poached, I know that I hired the right guy/gal.

if Las Vegas is so wonderful, why do all the UNLV fans have a gigantic chip on their shoulder about Reno?

I grew up in northern Nevada and went to HS in Reno. We. All. Left.

So. Just speaking from experience.

Grew up in Reno and went to HS and college in Reno. Left for three years for professional schooling and returned. Don’t want to leave and never will. Same for most of my friends. Raised two sons here, now adults, who also don’t want to leave. We all have stories. Stop pretending yours is the only one much less the most representative of those who grew up here.

You guys would be better off without him. He will never do anything in the tournament unless he's playing in it.

Have you guys been better off without him?

It’s very unlikely we’d find an equal or better replacement.

Forever the life of mid-major programs. I'm just hopeful this is a ploy for a contract extension and/or more resources for his program. Or maybe he needs the school to pay for a second private golf membership to go with his first one.

I worked a lot in Reno a few moons ago. Reminds me a lot of SLC. Mountains, climate, growing sport's scene. The only difference is the casinos and it's a little smaller. I like Carson City too. And the drive to Tahoe is first class scenery.

I would live there in a heartbeat.

People struggle here for two reasons. Don’t have education. Don’t have money. That’s why you move to Vegas. You can have a “career” as a bar back.

I haven’t been to the Wasatch Front in more than 30 years, when I enjoyed two weeks in a Weber State dorm in December for a management basic training course for new UPS full time management personnel. This was in my early 20’s in my first career before heading back to school to become a chiropractor. Anywho, the scenery is beautiful, though I never made it into Ogden (UPS threw their new management employees into the deep end, training pretty much sunup to sundown for 14 days).

There are many geographical similarities between the two areas, which would suit me since I’m big on outdoor recreation. I’d likely find SLC a fine place to live, but I’d probably have some cultural issues in the more conservative areas.

That campus is in a really cool place.

Don't take it personal. It's all in good fun. I'm from the northeast and I hate cold weather. Reno isn't bad I just hate the cold.

I don’t care if people don’t like Reno. I hate when people don’t see the dumb irony of their comments. Vegas has lost a helluva lot more basketball coaches than Nevada has.
