Gutting entire teams or players that teams took a chance on and developed only to see them leave really sucks. A lot of players are nothing more than mercenaries selling themselves to the highest bidder.

Isn't (or maybe wasn't) there a rule that a 2nd transfer in 2 years requires you to sit out? Seems wild to think that we've gone from allowing a single transfer after sitting out a year to essentially everyone being an unrestricted free agent every off season.

Not to mention, all this portal craziness starts while some teams are still playing!

There was, but that went out the window around this time last year.

Not sure what the solution is , but it’s hard to imagine the current situation is going to continue indefinitely. It’s creating too much chaos for everyone, even the players that won’t find teams or get their scholarship revoked so coaches can bring in a portal guy. 

Some kind of contractural basis is needed to keep players from jumping from school to school.

Step 1 - don’t hire a jerk for a coach.

Being a jerk makes things worse, but even good coaches are losing a lot of players.

Especially players that have not played much.  The high profile guys will always find places.  If i were an athlete and their was any sort of uncertainty about finding a landing spot I would be really hesitant to enter the portal and give up my full ride scholarship.  I don't know the concrete #'s but just spit balling it i would guess at least 25% who enter the portal don't find landing spots.

Ive heard there are currently 1400 players in the portal. That’s over 3 players per D-1 school, although some I’m sure aren’t D-1.

It's more like 4 per school.  Though that can be skewed with situations like DePaul where everyone from their roster is in the portal.

I'm not against the players getting some compensation but this NIL thing has just become a free-for-all bidding war & players are subject to the pressures of agents & "handlers" that are in their ears......the already unlevel playing field between the haves vs have nots is only growing wider under an unregulated NIL situation that is amplified by the transfer portal allowing yearly free agency 

We, in the MWC were already 2nd citizens in the college sports world and with the above situation, we are pretty much relegated to minor league status to the powers in college sports.......there's no more building via recruiting........it's a situation where the deepest pockets have all the advantage & leverage
