I believe the Union suggested the deal was $400k.

He talked about a recruit who just signed at a power conference for 400k only to find out it was less after signing with the school

So this piece from 4/20 in the UT is incorrect?:

Micah Parrish entered the college basketball transfer portal earlier this month, saying he was keeping open the option for a return to San Diego State for his final season of eligibility. That door closed Saturday morning, when the 6-foot-6 senior wing committed to Ohio State via social media, picking the Buckeyes and the Big Ten over Xavier and the Big East. The NIL package, according to sources, is estimated at $400,000.

TedfordTrain are you okay with this?

lol. Yes. Our team was straight garbage and we’re rebuilding from scratch. No issues with sending the garbage up north to the worst program in the conference.

So reading those two links it seems no one knows.

What they say is some guy last year was promised 400k+ but Ohio St didn't give it all to him.

Doesn't mean this other player from SDSU didn't get offered 400-600k... my guess is if this guy from SDSU (forget his name) thinks he's getting 400-600k , Butler thinks he's worth more or at least as much.

You can't blame these kids for taking advantage of the situation.  they should.

Unfortunately, long term this doesn't bode well for college athletics as a whole.

The point being, most recruiters are throwing numbers at kids. The top numbers, like Micah Parrish, being offered are $400k are for the top players and guys with seniority on the team. Not for roster filler.

As to the last two sentences, yes, they should take the money. While it may not bode well for roster stability, player development, etc., you can get better in one off season.

My biggest concern is kids changing Schools like gym socks. Most of these kids won't graduate. Many of their credits won't transfer from one system to another and another and another. In their pursuit of immediate cash, they will sadly throw away their post basketball earning potential.

Jay Pal from SDSU just ran out of eligibility. He played at four Schools in five years. The first at a Texas JC, followed by stints at small Colleges in the South. Then finished at SDSU. How much longer will he have to go to School to get that degree with the right classes ?

That's what he was told. The real deal was far less. The top numbers are for the top players and the kids with program seniority. It's the same at SDSU.

Certainly none of us can know exactly what anyone is actually getting but with all the numbers being thrown around all these kids are seeing dollar signs.

Beyond that I can't agree with you more.  On the face of things it's nice that these kids are now allowed to earn money but how this is actually playing out isn't good over the long term for the majority of SAs.

I have nothing against capitalism.  I own a business but I realize and appreciate there needs to be some sort of regulation.

The same should apply here but there is nothing,,, it's a free for all, no rules at all.

The funny thing is that this started because the schools were making all this money off of the SAs and not sharing any of it... and yet what's happening now is not the schools sharing the money they make... it's the boosters that are paying the bills... maybe that means fewer donations to the school but they sure aren't sharing that TV revenue (beyond what they already were doing).

In any case, we'll see how this all plays out.

you keep saying this but you really have no clue...did you consult your Tarot cards?

maybe you should take your own advice...sit back and enjoy the ride and..."we'll see how this plays out"

Thanks for the advice.

(Though it is a message board where people post opinions.  And that advice applies to many of the posts here so be sure to let everyone know that they "really have no clue" when it comes to the future.)

Apparently, there is interest in Butler from Big Time Schools.

Quote

On Thursday afternoon, Fox Sports’ Aaron Torres reported that Scheyer and the Blue Devils have been in contact with San Diego State transfer guard Lamont Butler. The Blue Devils are one of a multitude of teams who have reached out, along with Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Southern Cal, Washington, and West Virginia

That's the key word.  Just how does that package break down?  I think the 400K is just an eye opener.

It’s not the latest info from Ziegler, whether it’s correct or not i have no idea, you will need to ask him for his sources

That didn't take long.

Methinks he had a backdoor offer before declaring.

At least it wasn't USC and Muss - that would have sucked.

To each his own I guess.  Kentucky would be much better for me personally but some kids want that big city thing.   In the end today it's probably money that dictates the location more often than not.

Big time commit for Nevada 6’5 combo guard  Chuck Bailey from Evansville. Made MVC all freshman team and dropped 27 pts in a game this year as a freshman and scored in double figures 12 times. Held offers from Kansas Illinois and some other P5 schools out of high school , but ended up with some academic issues and had to sign with Evansville . 3 years of eligibility
