The WAC years for SDSU were lean for SDSU because of Bay. He forced Claude Gilbert to stop recruiting JC kids and recruit only four year Schoalrship Athletes. Claude wasn't happy about it. The on field performance tanked and Bay fired Gilbert. It was such a shit show, that even Don Coryell, then Charger Coach, scorched the School over Gilbert's firing. Bay came from Michigan. It's the biggest basketball payday he'll ever get. Let them spend cash on role players. There are a ton of potentially good players in the portal that won't get cash and would be perfect role players. Some of the these players are just going to be chasing the money. As you said most will never get money even close to that after college. Quote The Masters 5k road race All American.

USU has passed on him at every opportunity and I don't see the new coach being any different. Obviously PG is probably USU's biggest need with all-everything PG Darius Brown being out of eligibility. Coach Calhoun has been focused on two things since he got here, retaining as many starters as he could from this year's roster, and finding a new PG. USU has already brought in 3-4 PGs for visits and offered the one they liked the best. Among those brought in were Stephan Swenson (Stetson), CJ Noland (N. Texas), and Deyton Albury (Queens). Albury quickly became the target, was offered, and committed. Shortly after, Noland committed to UNM and Swenson committed to UC Santa Barbara. There is a second target for PG but it will not be Roddie. The more impressive accomplishment from the new coach is how in the world he was able to get so many starters to remain. Returning: Mason Falslev Isaac Johnson Josh Uduje Ian Martinez Karson Templin New Additions: Deyton Albury - 6'-2" PG transfer from Queens (17.0pts, 5.8 reb, 3.7 ast.) Aubin Gateretse - 6'-11" C transfer from Stetson (11.6pts, 7.6reb, 1.5 blk) Still in the air: Great Osobor - has scheduled visits to Kentucky, Louisville, Texas Tech, Washington, and has heard from about everyone in college basketball at this point. Most projections have him commanding a 750k-1M NIL deal. A couple of national insiders (including Trilly Donovan) have stated it is really down to only Kentucky and USU with the Aggies only being considered out of Great's love for USU and the opportunity to play with almost all the starters. USU fans are already considering him gone as they only have 250k or so set aside for him. Interesting that coach Sprinkle was not able to get a single player to follow him to Washington. I don't think they liked the way he left them or that it was the worst kept secret that he was leaving from about January on.

Replacing Buzo isn't going to be easy be Leon's done well in the portal the past few year, Anderson not withstanding. You can't win in tournament play, let alone consistently at the top of the MWC without a good PG. That's still 3 all league caliber starters but now one is the PG. He'll make everyone else better and that was something Anderson wasn't good at.
