Some Bronco fans had a higher opinion of Kobe's basketball abilities because he's a good athlete and they were very much in favor of sitting Max.   He's not a D1 level starter after 3 years in Leon's 'developmental' program.

Until the last two players left Wyoming for Drake(probably) we didn't loss anyone that really mattered. And I don't think it was anything unusual about the players that have left that condems Linder. Now these last 2 left to follow the coach that they followed here. That is understandable and is not an proof that they are leaving because of Linder. Now, why that coach left to Drake is another issue I don't know the answer to, could it be because Linder as awful to him? Sure it could be but there isn't any proof of that and I beleive he is close with the new head coach and Drake so that is probabaly the reason.

Now last year was a disaster and even admitted to it by Linder. I think he has made an effort to get closer to the kids this year and be less an "asshole". Did he succeed? Don't know but I didn't really see anything too crazy from the portal this year, some players low on the bench left( and one starter who didn't grow into becoming much of a contributer) and a couple others followed a coach to a new school. It happens. But when viewed in conjuction with last year I can see why it is viewed the way it is.

Now I reserve the right to change my opinion if more players  leave. But I will be there in my seats next year cheering and hoping others will make the AA fun again.

I believe we are returning only two players who played any significant minutes and a total of about 17 minutes a game: Kojenets and Newton.  I’ll be honest, I’m not sure if there are many Division 1 programs who would even sign those guys.  So - you can rest assured that we likely wont  (because we really can’t) be losing any more players.

You state that last year was a disaster.  Does your thought process change at all based on the fact that we actually returned significantly more minutes this year than we will next year?

BTW - following the logic of not losing players that matter through the portal   Would Linder be a success if he merely recruited a team of senior transfers every year? In that respect, we would never lose players that matter!

I noticed you also state the other players that left don’t matter.  I personally believe Caden Powell and Brendan Wenzel do matter as both players and ambassadors to the program.  They actually stuck with the program after last year’s debacle but both apparently didn’t want to come back again.  They were also both starters this year.  I guess we have different opinions of them as players that matter.

But also Linder on Jonas Sirtautus “He is as good of an athlete as I’ve ever coached.” If he doesn’t matter either, was Linder lying to us on the type of player he can be?

Well last year we lost everyone because of transfers and this year everyone graduated, so that makes last year worse than this year. Wenzel was a very good player that graduated but has one extra covid year and earned the opportunity to play a final year closer to his family. His decision had nothing to do with Linder being a dick. Powell never materialized like he should have. He was a decent player, so is a bit of a loss ill grant you but nothing like losing the guys we lost last year. If I had to guess he was told his minutes would be diminishing and role would be going to Cam before his assistant left and took Cam with him.

The senior transfers we brought in last year were brought in to stabalize the program after last year and I think they did that. What the plan is for the upcoming year?  Idon't know, I'll have more opinion on the team and program after I see who we bring in. I do like the look of the redshirted freshman Nigel Cook from the little I saw of him at the first game or two.

I looked into the crystal ball and the future was pretty clear:

The plan will be the same.  Plentiful Yellowstone .gifs, senior transfers from the likes of Hastings College and Adams State, and a few freshmen with competing D1 offers from Samford and Missouri-Kansas City.

Linder will point fingers at delays in dorm construction and inadequate food at the HAPC for the team’s early season struggles.  Linder will then run a few of the underclassmen off over the year and we can continue the cycle.

Boise State expected to announce a significant addition from the portal today. Hopefully it’s a post that can rebound, block shots, and shoot FTs. Scoring would be a plus but not essential as the Broncos have sufficient scorers.

The front line is solid with Agbo, Degenhart, Stanley. I doubt youre going to get a top notch big looking for starters minutes with those three firmly entrenched. Personally, i think the Broncos’ biggest need is an athletic guard who can put the ball in the basket from everywhere. An upgrade to Rice.

A birdie told me who the guy was and he was right. Just announced that SJSU PG Cardenas is coming to Boise State. Gives Boise State much needed depth and shooting at the guard position.

Now get a true post and the Broncos are in business.

Wonder if this means Roddie is on the way out after this? Cardenas only 1 year of eligibility left.

I know Rice doesn’t like positions but looking something like:

PG1: Cardenas (13/3/6)

-backups Roddie OR Lockett

SG1: Agbo (14/5/1)

-backups RJ Keene or Peanut

SF: Meadow (3/1)

-backups Portal guy or Ugbo

PF: Degenhart (17/6/2)

- 40 mpg

C: Stanley (13/7/2)

-Ugbo at 6’-8” and 235 (7’-2” wingspan) can probably hang with most bigs on defense, but he’s more of a wing player on offense. Need portal guy here for minutes with foul trouble-prone Omar Stanley not able to play much more than 25 mpg.

- Boise still has at least 2 scholarships left to fill out the roster, but looking pretty solid already.

Don't think they have any plans for Ugbo at the 3.  He's a PF for now.  If they don't land a starting post in the portal and the odds are against that,  then Buzo is 3. Degenhart 4 and Stanley the 5 but really they're all forwards in the scheme.  Meadow backs up Buzo and Degenhart when needed.  Ugbo will spell both Degenhart and Stanley.  That's if no center is added with the 2 scholarships left.   And even that would take Leon to play 8 guys regularly and he's never done that before.

I’m going to go out on a limb and predict we land a post similar or better than Martin to back Stanley up. That’s a big need as we don’t want Degenhart or Ugbo who is closer to 6’7” playing the post when Stanley gets in foul trouble
