Nobody was really thrilled about Pop Isaac hitting the portal but he would start here in this scenario. Even then, there’s a lot of programs (good ones) that need a point guard. 

Getting another point guard isn’t my concern, it’s the avalanche effect where one guy leaves and then another, and then another etc.  I think we’re looking at 6-7 spots being open again.

So far only JJ Johnson has entered the portal.............Cottrell & Nowell also entering wouldn't surprise me & honestly Cottrell leaving might be a plus in the long run.

Dedan could stick, because I think he has a low six figure NIL deal and he's got deep local ties unlike QB Maiava who moved to LV at a soph or Jr in HS so even though he played locally a year or two, he didn't have the deep ties Dedan has 

Never know what might happen, but at this point UNLV BB hasn't been damaged

Dedan almost committed to Houston & his mother wanted him to pick Houston. It’s not about NIL anymore with Dedan.  Being a floor general for one of the top teams in the country and the exposure that comes with it makes too much sense.

Anything's possible - But if this does happen it pretty much kills any enthusiasm for UNLV BB going forward ..........and every program that doesn't have a major NIL slush fund will be facing uphill battles -- Probably one of a few reasons UNLV FB & BB can't get support beyond the hard core few...........it's like why bother, even if UNLV signed a top recruit, odds are they are going to leave via NIL portal

The NCAA / Separation might as well happen sooner than later because most of the non-power 4 programs is already 2nd citizen and a minor league ...... honestly what's the point for a lot of these programs ?!?!

Isn't Pop dealing with a legal issue?  Might scare away the staff.

It's almost not even worth recruiting the top HS players anymore, knowing that they're looking for a bigger payout after their Freshman year.

Exactly........this NIL will eventually kill off wide interest in college sports 

Sad to sound like the doom & gloom guy, but you eventually have to ask why even be a fan of teams that you know are NEVER going to be able to play at a high level, especially in football ........so UNLV lands a top rated recruit, when odds are that player may only be here for one season and you can never count on returning players coming back to build anything 

Can see why UNLV sports has taken a hit in attendance.......UNLV is up against a system that is skewed against them -- maybe lighting strikes and a MWC team gets the right one year roster combination and makes an NCAA run (see SDSU) but i'm pretty sure UNLV will struggle long term unless some extremely wealthy boosters pump massive $$ into UNLV's NIL 

There's no continuity in college sports anymore and it was always a 3 to 5 year window as it was historically but you could fill gaps ...........now teams are losing 50-75-100% of their roster any given year -- And god help your G5 program if the coach gets poached by a P4 programs because that will cause a mass exodus in transfers

Couple things. First we have to realize that Dedan is probably planning on playing one more season of college ball. It should be obvious that the season went sideways and the NIT was not the goal.
 

So there’s one more season, do you run it back with a similar squad/staff and hope for better outcome that  or do you join a program that is a well oiled machine, well coached and primed for a title run?
 

If it were about NIL, he could enter the portal and have every major program bidding.

Potentially, but we’re going to be up against stiff competition for point guards. And we need two.

Guess with that thinking, why would anyone decent or with pro aspirations choose UNLV or 90% of programs out of HS -- As I said above, if UNLV is just going to become a middling have-not program, why even care anymore -- Even the top of the MWC doesn't land the blueblood recruits and has to rely on transfers that exceed their skills at their previous stops --- Plus if Kevin Kruger is the anchor that many seem to think it might be time to just rotate thru coaches like programs do players hoping lighting strikes for one gloriously lucky season before it's back to a total rebuild the next season -- Have to think any coach coming into interview at programs want a full disclosure of the NIL potential, because without NIL $$ no coach will keep players 

This guy used to be on RebelNet and this is about where I'm at  - As this NIL, yearly free agency rotation continues it's harder to care much anymore if you're not one of the top 10 programs in the country

My point is, it’s about the product on the floor. The last game vs Seton Hall just shows how far we got to go. The other game, vs SDSU in the conference tournament also showed that Dedan had zero help on offense. 
 

It was not a good team, one that was lucky to get in to the nit. Probably wasn’t going to sign up for another mediocre season.

Valid point, if DJ wants a better team then move on - Go where the conference is better and the NIL pays bigly
