That inbounds "play" (if it can be called that) to end the half was bad, really bad. Reb fans were into it and the energy went out of the building after that.

Just a mind bogglingly bad play coming out of a timeout. Almost had to try to come up with a play that terrible. Could fill a 5 minute video montages with horrific high leverage plays like that from this season.

For the last 2 spots, need a competent backup ball handler to spell DJ and an athletic 3-and-D wing with some length.

What would really spell DJ is if we had a second scorer, DJ pretty much carried the team on his back the last month or so. Nobody else really stepped up. The amount of energy DJ was expending playing 1 vs 5 ball yesterday probably would have been detrimental today if we had won.

Guys were standing around, Nowell turned the ball over because he was complaining instead of playing on. It was a disaster.

Yeah, it’s been sort of a theme under CKK. Early in the season it looked like half the team was checked out, fundamentals went out the window vs garbage teams. I am suspicious that things were going on off the court that impacted the on court product. The first loss happened because somebody did something dumb.

It’s puzzling, he’s got a good staff, a veteran staff and I wonder what his staff thought about that timeout and play design.

The inbounds play did change the complexion of the game, but i'm thinking were making a bigger deal about the timeout than we should be.  CKK had a timeout to burn before the half ended and just used it.  There's really only 2 options for that:  inbound and dribble out the clock or inbound and heave a full court shot.  Unfortunately, Key badly overthrew the inbound.  Unfair to pin that on CKK.

Nobody is talking about this but DJs dad looked frustrated at times. They have to know they are on a team full of morons and gimps. He probably told Kruger enough with the JAGs, get some serious players.

Add the Nowell play to the end of half play as inconceivably bad plays in high leverage situations that you almost couldn't make up. I'm shocked Nowell got the start and played 27 minutes and contributed virtually nothing other than that play and 5 fouls. I'd have rather had Webster out there longer.

You could see how gassed DJ was on that last shot he missed short.

I agree, need a second scoring option to help DJ.  KB being hurt had a huge impact on that game.  Huge dropoff between KB's scoring, blocks, and rebounds vs Nowell who started and played his minutes.

It’s unnecessary and you’re up 8. There was a lot of bonehead bullshit in this game. It set the tone and SDSU came out jacking threes.

The ONLY reason we didn’t get blown out by 30-40 points was DJ.

Not necessary, but normal for coaches to burn their TOs.  Didnt get blownout because of DJ + defense + Key's 3 pt shooting.

The worst thing is a lot of the boneheaded plays this season have come from the 5th year seniors who were partially brought in bc they were expected to avoid those types of rec league mistakes. How many did we see Kaleb make this year? The Boone brothers were really disappointing imo, how much better could we have been if Kaleb could rebound and avoid silly turnovers and Keylan could shoot 3's like he did last year?

Not sure why Nowell got the start and a lot of court time -- With Boone out at the 5 position.

Nowell has hardly played & then he's thrust into starting & major minutes in a key game --- Why not try Jones at the 5 for the start ?

Boone left a big hole in the UNLV game plan with his absence & SDSU's rebounding domination shows it -- there's enough guys to rotate with a key guy out = Cotttell (never saw the court) Jones, Nowell, Whaley all could have rotated down low

Without Boone, Whaley was left alone to cover LeDee & the post -- plus Whaley got dinged up as the game went on which probably didn't help

Still despite the bungled end of the 1st half play and the injuries and weird mental gaffs...........this game came down to the final shot .........even Thomas's last second game tying shot had an SDSU players hand graze it slightly

In a game this close you can go back to every missed shot, lousy pass & mental gaff & say "what if" ........but in the end this was a missed opportunity by UNLV -- there were too many self inflicted wounds

I was talking to someone and was completely surprised Nowell got the start, after playing about 5 minutes total, all season. Just ridiculous for him to get that much playing time, Cottrell might have been more effective, who knows, since I didn’t see him play.
Also, did JJ see the court more than a minute? The kid can drive occasionally, and has been able to shoot a 3 here and there. If the others weren’t getting it done, why not give either of them a shot.

When I saw this earlier, my thought was that there will probably be plenty of others who want to play alongside DJ. I think it will come down to whether his dad feels like UNLV is the best place for him to be. I’m not sure it is, as much as I’d like it to be.

That is the only reason for keeping KK on at this point so that we can rebuild (again) but this time around the best player in the conference. If he can’t hold on to DJ then there’s really no point in keeping him anymore so can his sorry ass and wipe the slate clean with a new staff.

Bear Cherry is a big boy. We need our own fatsobor. Every other team in the conference has that except UNLV. I'm not high on Juco's much anymore though.

He's going to be a very good role player for us.  He’ll be way better than Karl Jones.  He’s averaging 7 rebounds in 19 minutes.

DJ Thomas will be back.

Jackie Johnson III has to go.  He’s not good enough for this level.  If you’re going to be a small guard, you better be dynamic like DJ Thomas.  He’s not!

If Jackie is willing to come off the bench you keep him. He has some upside. As far as Bear Cherry Juco guys are really a gamble. Competition is really not the same. Hope he is like Lampkin at Colorado. We need a big fat guy.
