He rebounds at a high rate especially for a guard.  He must have a high motor.

23 points and 9 Rebounds vs. Kansas State

26 points and 6 Rebounds vs Texas Tech

He's the perfect compliment to DJ in the backcourt, taking on some of the pressure to score.

Super solid signing. Looks like an upgrade in several ways over JWeb.

I like that he shoots a pure shot from the top of the key. Not just corner 3s.

Also more size and athleticism.

UNLV should finish top 3 again or better with this roster.

This team has to make the dance.

Good pick up. From what I have read seems to be a solid upgrade over Webster not sure how he compares to what we had in Keylan.  Be interesting to see what Kevin does with the final schollie. Haven't paid much attention to what the other MWC teams have lost or picked up so not sure where we compare but think UNLV will be in top half. Hoping the staff picks up another shooter to finish things out

I'd like to see a freshman pg or sf/pf.

I wouldn't be upset with another transfer.

UNLV basketball adds transfer Jailen Bedford

One of the top offseason priorities for UNLV head coach Kevin Kruger was to add shooting on the wing, and he got some good news on that front on Friday, when the team received a commitment from Oral Roberts transfer Jailen Bedford.

Bedford, a 6-foot-4 guard, was one of the top offensive players in the Summit League in 2023-24, averaging 14.6 points per game while connecting on a healthy 37.3% from 3-point range.

UNLV was decidedly mediocre from long distance last year. The team shot just 33.7% from 3-point range, which ranked the Scarlet and Gray No. 202 in the nation. The starting wings, Keylan Boone and Luis Rodriguez, combined to make 33.2% from 3-point range. Shooting guard Justin Webster started 21 of 31 games and also hit 33.3 percent.

Bedford was a high-volume shooter at Oral Roberts, as he attempted 5.7 3’s per game last year. That would have slotted him behind Boone (5.8 attempts) and ahead of Rodriguez (4.1 attempts) among UNLV’s 3-point shooters.

A Texas native, Bedford was an unranked prospect coming out of high school in 2021. He went the junior-college route and played his first two years at Trinidad State; as a sophomore in 2022-23, he posted 16.6 points and hit 44.2% on 3’s.

Bedford has one year of eligibility remaining.

Last scholarship should be a long, athletic four man who can shoot from deep.

I think it’ll be a developmental player, the roster looks pretty much set. There’s only so much playing time available.

Starting/Backup

1. Dedan/Whiting

2. Jailen/Hicks/ Whiting

3. Henley/Evans/Hill

4. Whaley/Hill/ Bannarbie

5. Cherry/Cottrell/N’daiye

Initial impressions of the roster is that it could be the most improved rebounding team in the country. Picked up guys that can actually rebound, also picked up a couple shooters. It was a mix of guys that CKK signed, and looks like a roster that benefits DJ the most. DJ needs a lot of space to operate and needs teammates that aren’t afraid to get in there to do the dirty work off the glass.

From my perspective, he is the Keylan Boone replacement due to his rebounding. I am really exciting to see that motor out of a shooting guard.

Let's not start sucking each other's popsicles just yet, gentlemen.  He was on a putrid ORU team that finished 8th in the mighty Summit League.  Looks to be decent statistically and on paper at least.

I agree with that. I've made the cellar dwelling team statement many times.

I'm just looking at a head to head comparison to Jweb, who also came from a bad program.

He's got better stats and his tape is way more dynamic.

That said, point taken. This still needs to be a tournament team.
