All the coaches and ADs go to the tourney and lots of deals are done there. AD might be silent because he doesn't want questions about extending. Especially if he's not planning to extend or currently in talks to extend. Might have just been at the tournament. If KK doesn't continue a positive trajectory, do not retain, no buy out. Everyone has been back in town now and almost certainly the end of year interviews have been completed with all of the players. 1 player has entered the portal. Rumors of DJ going into the portal have been refuted by local media and now DJ…twice in the past few days. No news from the AD about any searches or contract changes. It seems the last hope to fire CKK slipped away a few weeks ago and of course that is what we are talking about here in an ever so subtle manner. There is still the ongoing opportunities to talk about the further failures he’ll certainly make while recruiting the portal over the next month. Is replacing 3 scholarships still considered a massive roster turnover again this year? Added to the 3 newcomers I guess an argument can still be made. Is having another 2 freshman coming in this year a positive for building the roster with potential multi year players argument standpoint or a negative for bringing in guys that can’t contribute to save CKK’s job standpoint? Until the portal closes… My guess is that Maiava & DJ Thomas are completely different situations -- Maiava's family is the entity reportedly pushing for the NIL $$ because of some financial issues...........not sure that is even a consideration for Thomas .......... plus there's much longer local ties with Thomas than with Maiava. There’s already been poached players from UNLV football and offers to players. There always will be with high caliber players like Dedan that will be getting offers through different channels. He IS the program and everything should be done to placate him. That being said, this was from a Houston insider: “10 days ago was the last time I reached out to someone about Dedan. He wasn’t leaving UNLV. They were adamant. Then on Thursday, I received a screenshot. I then reached out to another person close to Dedan’s camp. Text I got back. “Tina finally won out”. I got excited and text a couple of the guys on the board, one of them being Nate. And told him, “it’s confirmed, Dedan is coming”. I should have rephrased and said, “once he enters, he will be a Coog”. That was my mistake. Don’t put it on Nate. Also. To clear the air on Dedan. He is a great kid. This wasn’t about more NIL for him. It was about his teammates and future teammates. One in particular from SMC. If he commits to UNLV soon, Dedan got what he wanted. Not more money for him.” Sounds like if we land Jefferson, then Dedan is definitely staying. If not, then everything is up in the air.
