Sorry to say it, but they will be worse next year. Replacing the Boones is going to be hard. LuRods defense will be missed as well. The freshman coming in are not instant impact players. Unless they get two elite portal guys. They got two elite portal guys in the Boones and still didn't make the tournament. Next year the cry will be we are so young and Kruger needs time to mold. Rinse, wash, and repeat. This is what unlv Fandom looks like.

The factor you're underestimating here is Dedan Thomas. He will be another year older and will only get better. Special PGs like him tend to make everyone around them better. I'm betting on a NCAAT bid for the Rebs next year.

Oh I know he will be better. I'm still not sure he is coming back. He said that right after the game. Harder to say when a school like Texas writes you a million dollar check. The Boones are going to be hard to replace. I'm sure Rebel.fans will tell me about some transfer from the Midwest that will be ten times better.

Replacing the Boones will be challenging, but seemingly a lot of good players want to play in Vegas. I hope you can hang onto Thomas. He will be the best player in the MW next year if you can keep him. Kruger seems to be a capable recruiter to me.

I'm just tired of seeing players in this conference kill us that we could of had. Ledee or even Osobor we could of got. We are enamored with stars not substance.

Yeah that is frustrating. At what point do you blame the prevailing culture in the AD and university in general? UNLV always has enough talent, but the talent doesn’t seem to develop and perform. Unfortunately I’m a Dallas cowboys fan so I see a few parallels, but I could be totally off.

We have a competent AD now so that excuse is out the window. Top NIL in the conference and can't get in the conference semi finals. It's a roster construction problem which falls on Kevin.

Looking at Odom and Lindy (WBB coach) they seem to be beyond competent in their jobs and immediately instilled a culture of winning. It doesn’t take YEARS. 
 

UNLV MBB always has talent, more so the last three years since Rice was canned. Yet, cannot break the 20 win barrier. Nobody wants to talk about it but there’s been A LOT of low IQ plays and situational F ups under CKK. Yesterday calling timeout before the half up 8 and giving SDSU their first ever three in the game. 
 

Clearly should have been a 24-25 win season. Now we’re waiting on whether the NIT calls. If not, I think Harper has some tough choices to make, even if CKK comes back next season it is going to be a real pressure cooker.

Just wait on insert 5th year senior transfer A and B are going to be so much better than the Boone brothers. That player held us back now that we have so and so things will change.

Why not bring in a transfer who won't be a 1 year band aid. Maybe a junior transfer.

I get discussing who's leaving and who has eligibility. But one has no clue about whether they stay and who might transfer out.

Hell, they might even fire KK and his successor could purge the roster.

Yeah, it’s been sort of a theme under CKK. Early in the season it looked like half the team was checked out, fundamentals went out the window vs garbage teams. I am suspicious that things were going on off the court that impacted the on court product. The first loss happened because somebody did something dumb. 
 

It’s puzzling, he’s got a good staff, a veteran staff and I wonder what his staff thought about that timeout and play design.

There is going to be 4-5 players that are eligible to come back next year that won't be at UNLV. 

If an NIT invite does not come it will be interesting to see what Harper does. I could see him go either way.  

This just might be an interesting off-season.  Just hopefully it isn't mire of the same next year.

We will need more than that. Hopefully some non contributors transfer out and we can pick up a consistent scorer and inside force, and/ or Bear Cherry doesn't need a lot of time to get up to speed. It's admirable we were able to nearly beat SDSU but we're manhandled so badly inside, will be more of the same without some legit reinforcements.
