2021 revenue came out BYU had 106 million Utah had $110 million. How much more do you anticipate BYU making over Utah with P5 money BYU will now be getting especially since they were basically identical in 2021 when BYU wasn’t in a conference.

According to you BYU made peanuts with its TV contract. So we must be about to get a massive revenue increase

You poor little guy.  Always looking over your shoulder to see what Utah's doing.

2021 revenue? Really? LOL. Did you mean 22/23 revenue?

It looks like BYU is getting big buck donations from the LDS church to supplement their budget. Football only made $47 million and hoops was good at $16.6. The revenue from you rev sports was only $74 million which is just above MWC level.

Meanwhile, Utah made $92.5 million in football last year which is in the top 15. And we had a budget of $126 million. Hoops was about $16.6 million. BYU is getting baby revenue shares for a few more years, so it's going to take you a lot longer than you think to catch up. With your honor code restrictions, you won't be able to get very many good athletes in there no matter the revenue.

BYU only gets “baby revenue shares” for one more year.  They are a full participant beginning with the new media deal in 2025.

Only 2 years of partial shares for BYU, not the 8 or so years of table scraps until a full payday like Utah got from the PAC. ;)

Don’t forget about the billions Ryan Smith  gives to his employees that are somehow jointly working as BYU coaches according to @robe

That’s just gravy….  GRAAAAAVYYYYY!

In all seriousness, I think BYU will settle into the top half of the B12 on budget.  It won’t take you long to get there.  More people, sponsors and businesses want to hitch their wagon to you when you have a P4 nametag. Better Nike deals etc.

I’m not an expert on LES, I know you have suites in the press box tower but I think it would be sweet to add more bells and whistles and creature comforts with premium seating in the end zones.  Maybe something along the top edge like OSU’s Boone Pickens stadium.

Something very strange going on at BYU. They have offered 2 players over a million dollars in NIL money. Some Ero player and another kid. BYU has the 24 rank class and if they land the rumors will be in the top 10. They are offering more than the blue bloods according to multi sources.

The original article talked about the multi million dollar investment Ryan Smith made in BYU basketball. I’m guessing it was a massive NIL investment. What are your thoughts?

A much different way of doing things at BYU for sure.

My thoughts @robe, are that we are starting to see the recruiting results of BYU jumping into a bigger conference at just the right time.

And - getting a new head coach who's fresh off an NBA season, who's also worked with some of the big names.

Wow, pretty crazy. NIL provides the opportunity for new blue bloods to arise.

Programs with more donor money can buy results in a much more direct way than in the past.

It takes big money to get players to move to Provo, give up sex, give up Coke, keep their hair short and tithe 10% of their NIL money.

lol. Whew.. now that you fixed it. It’s suddenly clear that a normal college kid can go live it up at BYU.

C’mon man. I’ve always said kids should know what they’re getting into signing on the dotted line in Provo.  But there is really no fixing what most people think from the outside.

Yeesh. Utah is the only team in the top 15 not in the BIG or SEC. Pretty clear who the haves are conference wise these days.

Schools like Gonzaga and BYU seem to focusing on recruiting more and more European and African players

Gonzaga had a few NBA first round players from Europe and Japan over the past few years.

for BYU, maybe these guys will follow the BYU restrictions and are less bothered than a typical American jock

not sure if it will work out.

Basketball is such an international sport

crazy to thank that the two best NBA players right now are white guys from Europe, who aren't the most athletic

More than just the top 2. Just looking at this seasons VORP rating (Value over Replacement Player) which is a pretty solid advanced stat metric; the top 5 players in the NBA are international players:

1. Nikola Jokic(10.6)

2. Luka Doncic(8.0)

3. Giannis Antetokounmpo(7.2)

4. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander(7.1)

5. Domantas Sabonis(6.2)

LeBron James and Jalen Brunson are next on the list and the best American players at 5.4 each.

BYU's Honor Code is onerous enough for the average young adult (especially male) that there's no need to exaggerate its effect.

It looks like BYU has decided to become elite in basketball. I’m concerned about the football team. BYU is going to pay 3 to 4 players a million plus each year in basketball.

Recruits brought in.

1 mormon 4 star

1 European 2 mill per year 5 star

2 black player one 4 star the other a 5 star who didn’t qualify for admission

1 black transfer who was highly sought after

Young ran off Waterman who started last year. At least it was hinted that way by BYUtv.

BYU has a a million or so to dole out to another high prize recruit since the 5 star couldn’t make it into BYU. I’m sure he won’t be member.

to be honest I’m not sure how I feel and I’ve seen a number of highly recruited players not pan out. BYU will not be a bunch of Mormon boys anymore.

BYU has the money to compete with anyone in the country now. Seems weird and I wouldn’t have believed it a month ago.

I don’t think they will invest in the football program like they are basketball.
