In his interview Boise State's head softball coach mentioned two newcomers to the team who impressed him in former San Jose State player Karizma Bergesen and true freshman Sophia Knight. He also mentioned Hutchins, Flores, Hanna and Bumcrot as the top returning starters. First game was a 2-1 win over Kansas City (MO) and the 2nd game was a 10-2 five inning mercy rule win over host school Hawaii. San Diego State lost 3-0 to # 3 ranked Stanford but was tied up at 0-0 thru the fifth inning until they replaced starting pitcher Allie Light with Dee Dee Hernandez. Bronco7454 Posted February 9, 2024 Author Share Posted February 9, 2024 A review of my pre-season GUESSES about what the lineup would be for 2024 for all nine MWC softball teams had mixed results. For San Diego State I was right on 7 of 10 positions but I was wrong on who would be their DP (Alyssa Garcia - UCLA transfer was their DP yesterday) and I had Makena Brocki at 2B when she was at 3B yesterday with UCF transfer Micaela Macario at 2B. I did get Catcher, 1B, SS, RF, CF, LF and # 1 pitcher right tho. For Fresno State I got only 6 out of 10 correct. I was wrong about their DP (Alyssa Ramirez was their DP yesterday) and 1B (Sophia Medellin (UCLA transfer was their 1B yesterday) and RF (Taryn Irigoyen) and CF (Kealani Nitta). The positions I guessed correctly were Catcher (Kennedy Bunker), 2B (Emma Martinez), SS (Lauren Almeida), 3B (Bella Rocco), LF (Keahilele Mattson) and starting Pitcher (Taylor Gilmore). Now they have their 2nd game of this 2024 season scheduled to begin about 35 minutes from right now against the St. Thomas Tommies (Huh???). Score is only 2-0 in the top of the 6th but ASU has managed only 3 hits total so far. I'm watching this game primarily because former Boise State (and Fresno State) player Kelsey Hall is starting for ASU in Center Field.
