Watching games at the WCWS the pitchers are much better than any in the MWC. Much better velocity. Tough to get those type of pitchers in the MWC unless you pay them more than they can get at the elite schools.

I agree with your point on the elite school. But are Big West, WAC, and WCC schools really paying more than us?

It's like saying water is wet...............duhhh.   Of course the top schools have better pitchers (and hitters).   That's WHY they are the top schools.   That and the fact that being in the now Power 4 conferences they have so much more in the ways of attracting the top players that's it's ridiculous.   It's the same in football and to a lesser extent in basketball.   It's a rigged system but it is what it is.

BTW one MWC made it to within one win of being in the College Softball world series last year.  That being San Diego State.

There are now 618 softball players who have entered the 2024 transfer portal.   And - to date - there are 18 of those 618 players who have arranged to transfer to another team.  That's with 2 weeks remaining in the 2024 softball transfer portal period.   Which means 600 of the 618 players have not YET found a new home for the 2025 season.

Speaking of elite pitchers Canady of Stanford has them in the final four of the WCWS last night after beating UCLA. That girl is a workhorse having pitched in more than 80% of their games. Without her Stanford would have been middle of the pack in the PAC this year. Like they say good pitching  always beats good hitting.

Canady gives Stanford an outside shot at winning it all, but the other three also have elite pitching and hitting on top of that which Stanford doesn’t have.

Boise State needs to find pitchers that aren’t necessarily elite, but good enough to shut down MWC teams.

You think that's devastating.  Here at Oregon State we had 18 softball players hit the portal.  All of them said they don't want any part of the WCC.

I checked the players from Oregon State who entered the transfer portal against their 2024 Oregon State roster.  I found only two of the 2024 Oregon State softball players who are not in the transfer portal who were not Seniors in 2024.  They are:

Ellie Garcia - RHP - 2024 Junior

Lici Campbell - C/UT - 2024 Junior

So it appears - as of right now - that the 2025 Oregon State softball team will be made up of one catcher and one pitcher.

Of course they did sign 4 high school players last November

Too bad that all four of them played - as their primary position in HS - 2B, SS or 3B.

We're going to strike them all out Bronco.  No need for infielders and outfielders.  Just a catcher and pitcher are all we need to win the WCC.  In all seriousness, I talked to one of the assistants this week, and he said recruiting is going well.  We'll have no problem filling the roster and easily compete for the WCC championship.  However, we probably won't field a team that can beat the likes of UCLA and Stanford.  Not all of the WCC softball teams are fully funded.  They don't fund for out of state scholarships and/or have their full complement of four assistant coaches which you can have in 2025.

Good to hear that they are doing SOMETHING to address the Elephant in the room.   But are they doing anything in the way of transfers from the portal?   I would think they'd be all over that but as yet I've seen them doing nothing at all in that regard.

From what I was told, lot of kids are undecided right now.  Doesn't the portal close at the end of June?  We'll see a lot of signing announcements in July.

Nope.  The 2024 softball transfer portal closes in 12 days on Monday June 17th.  And as I mentioned earlier there are currently 629 players in the 2024 softball TP.   Twenty of whom have committed or signed to play for another school in 2025.   But of course being in the portal is the important part - they can sign with a new team at any time.  They simply have 12 more days to enter the portal.

You're welcome.  The number of players in the 2024 softball TP increased by 8 yesterday.  That number is now up to 637 softball players in the transfer portal.

The number who have signed or committed to new teams is still at 20.

None of the new additions to the TP yesterday had any connection to the MWC softball teams or Oregon State.

Speaking of softball Oklahoma's 8-3 win over # 1 seed Texas last night put the Sooners one win from something that's never ever been done before.   That being a 4th straight NCAA softball championship by one team.   They already have won the last three NCAA softball championships (which - to my knowledge - has only been done twice) and now they are on the brink of winning an unprecedented 4th straight title with a win tonight at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN or on Friday (if they lose tonight) also at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.

The Sooners have also won six NCAA softball championships since 2012.  Namely in 2013, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022 and 2023.   If they win it again this year with a win tonight or tomorrow night that would be seven championships in 12 years (and one of those seasons was cancelled after about 1 month of play).

IF the Sooners do - in fact - win one of the next two games this week they will be tied with Arizona with a total of 8 NCAA softball championships overall behind only UCLA with 13 NCAA softball championships.

And the Sooners wasted no time and won it all last night with an 8-4 win over # 1 Seeded Texas to win their record setting 4th straight NCAA championship in softball.

But after looking at who they lose (10 of 21 players, i.e., roughly half their team, & 6 of their top 8 hitters & 3 of their 6 pitchers) there is no chance, IMO, of them winning a 5th straight championship.

UPDATE

Boise State's Alycia Flores - who participated in the 2024 Senior Day at Boise State - has entered the transfer portal.  As I suspected she - and Karizma Bergesen - both have one last season of eligibility remaining.

The 2024 softball transfer portal now has 650 entries and 33 of them have either committed or signed with a new team for the 2025 season.

Lastly Colorado State, Fresno State, Nevada and San Jose State still have no players who have entered the transfer portal.  And there have been no other MWC new entries into the TP.

The recently updated 2025 Boise State softball roster currently has 13 players listed on the roster.  And they have nine true freshmen who will join the team in the fall.  Meaning the total number of players on the roster will be 22 right now.  Which leaves them room to bring in three transfers if they go with their usual 25 players.
