MWC teams don’t seem to stack up well against the Top 25 of women’s softball. You would think being in the warmer west, where there are a ton of good players, the MWC would have better teams, but I think a lot of the better California and Arizona players either go to PAC schools, or go back east.

Im always surprised when I watch SEC teams how many girls are from California.

I'm pretty sure the NIL $$ that SDSU softball players get is just a small fraction of what the SEC players receive. Probably something like 20 grand compared with ten times that much.

MWC women softball players actually get NIL money?

Go Aztecs !

Side note: How is Boise as the five seed hosting the Tourney ? That's a severe advantage for them.

Are they being forced to use the visitors locker room ?

Have they changed the backdrop in CF ?

Come on, everyone complains about UNLV's advantages in the roundball Tourney. Why is Boise being given privilege as a weak assed five seed ?

:foottap:

The REGULAR SEASON winner from the previous season hosts the tournament.  How do you not know that?   Your comment here is the very definition of "lame".

Great info, but maybe, just maybe Boise needs to address this situation.

If you want fans at the games to help subsidize the program. You gotta make it possible for fans and their families to have easy access to the games.

You are preaching to the choir here.   The parking situation was - from the beginning of the construction of this athletic complex at Dona Larsen Park about a decade ago - VERY poorly planned.  Short of building a multi-level parking garage on the current parking lot site I don't see a solution to the problem.

Nevada doesn’t retain interim coach Marina Demore after a 40 win season.

Kind of surprising considering how successful she was, but I guess it makes sense to conduct a national search to see if we can find someone more proven?

I agree, I’m hoping that Rempe has a really good candidate in mind. Otherwise it seems a bit hard to justify.

Sounds like the people in charge at Reno are the problem.   Translation = This is a moronic decision.

Apparently they don't want their softball program to be successful.

You think that's devastating.  Here at Oregon State we had 18 softball players hit the portal.  All of them said they don't want any part of the WCC.

Wow, that's brutal. I know OSU softball is good, but I hope you're elite baseball program is able to remain elite with the conference changes. Have they determined if you're joining the WCC for baseball as well? At least the WCC is sometimes a multi bid league in baseball.

Our coach who was let go was actually an OSU grad.

Baseball is going to be independent next season.  The only sport that I haven't heard yet is women's gymnastics, which is trying to reportedly get into the Big 12.

According to this thread on Reddit the number of Oregon State softball players in the TP is now 18.

The move to the WCC could backfire on OSU & WSU

Compared to the MW? I don't think there's much difference in olympic sports between the two, if anything there is a slight edge to the WCC.

Nevada name's Washington assistant and former SDSU assistant Victoria Hayward HC.

https://nevadawolfpack.com/news/2024/5/22/victoria-hayward-named-nevada-softball-head-coach.aspx

I don't get it, I could maybe see moving on from Demore if we had an experienced, proven winner lined up. But Hayward is the same age as Demore with no HC experience. Strange move...

Could be the case, especially in women's sports -- there's a big drop from the old P5 to G5 programs, so can see why OSU & WSU could see mass exodus not being in the power mix anymore
