2024 Mountain West Conference Softball thread

Recommended Posts

And as far as grad school.  I admittedly am not familiar with Boise State but many programs want to see your final transcripts.  Not uncommon for application deadlines to be mid May with acceptance deadlines 5 days to 6-8 weeks later.  Depends on the school and program.  My daughter got the final approval early July with an August start date.   She applied at several and that’s pretty consistent with the timeline she experienced.  She obviously wanted to see where she was accepted before making that decision.  Frustrations ran high as planning a move with only a few weeks was hard.  Just going off of our experience less than a year ago.

Similar with my daughter. She graduated last year from Oregon. We moved her out graduation weekend into a "Pods" that sat in Eugene while she came home to Albuquerque. When she picked her grad school we called them up and had them ship the pod to that city. Very frustrating for us too, especially because she ended up on the east coast.

What does exist is the N.I.L. program I just mentioned above at Boise State.   Are they going to get rich off it?  Absolutely not but it does result in some $$$$ for the Boise State athletes.  So your characterization of this as "completely non existent" is simply false.  Much like your false statement about grad schools only accepting in the mid summer months.

Why did you ask your question if you have all the answers?

You two should look up "inductive reasoning".  It's also referred to as "bottom up reasoning".

I’m also using Inductive reasoning to judge you on this post

For those who are thinking of attending the 2024 MWC softball tournament this Thursday thru Saturday in Boise, ID., you should be aware of the fact that there is minimal parking available at Dona Larsen Park and if you don't have a parking permit your vehicle could be towed away on Thursday and Friday (not on Saturday).  There are numerous signs in the very small parking lot that indicates this.

Also the businesses located near the Dona Larsen Park have more signs saying parking is for their customers ONLY and violators will be towed away.   Yes - it sucks - but there are alternatives.   You can try to park at the St. Luke's Hospital parking lot located about 1/2 block North of the Park (including underground parking) or try to find a parking spot on or near Warm Springs Avenue (just North of the park) and walk to the park.   There is also parking available to the South off of Front Street.  But it's a bit of a walk back to the park from that parking area.

Best advice would be GET THERE VERY EARLY, i.e., more than an hour before game time.  But again parking at the park itself on a weekday without a permit could result in your vehicle being towed away.

There are are some fast food places (Carl's Jr right next to the park & a Chik fil A next to the Carl's Jr., etc.) near the park and a convenience store about 100 yds NW of the park.  There are some other restaurants directly across the street (Broadway) from the park.

Thank you!  Does anyone know the seating situation.  Are there pass lists and reserved seats for families in the stands?  I only see outfield seats available.  Are there bleachers or ground seating in the outfield?

To say that their 2025 softball team is basically going to be a brand new team would be pretty much accurate.

It's unclear how many of Nevada's softball players participated in their Senior day activities as I found nothing in the Social Media websites I have access to or on the Nevada softball news articles regarding WHO was involved in their Senior day activities but there are 11 players on their team whose class status is above Junior.   So it may have been all 11 of them who participated.  Maybe a Nevada fan can step in and specify exactly which of their softball players will not be returning for 2025 and if any of their Seniors will be returning.

After reviewing the Bios for each of these 11 Nevada softball players who are listed as Seniors or 5th year Seniors, it appears that at least 8 of them will not be returning but 3 of the 11 look like they COULD return if they chose to do so.  That being 1B Sam Oliver - 1B Hailey Prahm and C Charlie Hawkins.

There are stands between the dugouts and plenty of outfield seating.  The outfield seating all year has been sitting on the sloped hills and not sure if they have brought in some bleachers but even if so, very small amount of them due to the slope of the hill.  As far as the reserved seats in the stands, I would contact your school to check on that.  If I remember correctly, the all games session pass in the stands is $40 dollars.  Look me up and say hi, my name is Dave and I'll be wearing an orange security shirt either roaming the outfield or taking tickets as you come in the gate!

There have never been bleachers in the outfield - the "seating" in the outfield is sitting on the grass on the hill that begins a few feet behind the outfield fences.  Watch one of the archived Boise State home games on the MWC streaming channel and you can see for yourself.

I don't see them erecting bleachers for the tournament but it could happen I suppose.  Hundreds choose to sit out there on the grass rather than sit in the stands.  Why I do not know as the stadium seats are rarely full.

I don't know the answers to your other questions but you might want to call the Boise State ticket office or athletic offices.

P.S. If you think the seating at Boise State's softball field is bad you should have seen it when their field was the old Mountain Cove field back when the Boise State softball team was started (prior to 2010).  But at least that field had parking available.

How is it that a Fresno State fan is working as Security at ANY Boise State event (of ANY kind).   Talk about a conflict of interest - that's the very definition of that term.  It's like the old phrase "Having the fox guard the chicken coop".

Since no Nevada fans have weighed in on which of the Nevada softball players participated in their Senior day event I guess I'll do it.  Feel free to correct anything I have wrong here (Nevada fans):

# 5 - Gabby Herrera - Senior - Starter in RF - Started & played 52 of 53 games in 2024 - .409 BA

# 23 - Bridgette Gilliano - Senior - Starter @ 2B - Started all 53 games in 2024.  .343 BA

# 34 - Maile Olsen - Senior - Starter @ SS - Started & played in 52 of 53 games in 2024. BA .291

# 77 - Charli Hawkins - Senior - Starter at C - Played in 50 of 53 games in 2024 with 49 starts - BA .215

# 9 - Taryn Jenkins - 5th year Senior - Starter at 1B - Started all 53 games in 2024 - .345 BA

# 22 - Chelie Senini - 5th year Senior - Starter at CF - Started all 53 games in 2024 - .411 BA

# 28 - Carley Brown - 5th year Senior - RHP - One of the two primary starting pitchers in 2024 - 2.86 E.R.A. - WHIP 1.21 - 117.1 IP - 12-4 W/L record - 27 appearances - 20 starts

# 88 - Blake Craft - 5th year Senior - RHP - One of the two primary starting pitchers in 2024 - 2.68 E.R.A. - WHIP 1.27 - 117.1 IP - 14-5 W/L record - 25 appearances - 21 starts

# 17 - Tyra Clary - Senior - RHP primarily utilized as a relief P - # 1 on the team in E.R.A. @ 2.41 & WHIP @ 1.19 - 9-5 W/L record - 93 IP - 28 appearances - 7 starts

# 51 - Hailey Prahm - Senior - 1B - Played in 17 games in 2024 with 0 starts - .333 BA

# 44 - Sam Oliver - Senior - 1B - D.N.P. in 2024

Apparently nearly 1/2 of the 2024 Nevada softball team will not be returning for 2025.  Including 5 non-pitching starters and their three best pitchers.  About the only position players returning (barring transfer portal entries) are LF Bailie Clark (# 1 in BA @ .411) and 3B Hailey Painter (# 4 in BA @ .362).

Well, because I enjoy being around and meeting new people.  I love sports and it allows me to enjoy them while working!  True, I’m a proud Fresno St. fan yet I root for Boise St when they are not playing the Dogs.  I’m retired and it gives me an opportunity to make a little extra money for golf and traveling.  Funny thing is, you’ve probably talked to me, said hi several times not even knowing I was a Fresno fan!   Unlike some fans, I can have allegiance to a certain school yet root and work for another without compromising my beliefs and friendliness to others!  Looking forward to meeting you Thursday!
