Let's talk Turkey....#teamspatchcock

Recommended Posts

Like retro, I’m not handling the turkey this year, but I’ve never spatchcocked my turkeys. I have spatchcocked chickens many times, usually for the grill rather than the oven, and really like that technique, but I have a tried and true recipe for a whole turkey that works perfectly every time, so I’m reluctant to change things. For smaller birds, I also have a steam convection oven that will produce an excellent crispy skinned bird up to 13 or 14lbs (can’t recall the oven’s capacity off the top) in 80-90 minutes, so I’ll probably never spatchcock a turkey.

Spatchcock. (Just needed to get that in one more time)

Some folks just like to say spatchcock.

It's a strong, manly word for a strong manly way to prepare a bird.

You have seen the Turkeys I prepare on facebook each year.  My spatchcock is juicy AF.  A1 baby.

Smoked with pecan. I'm using Franklin Barbeque's recipe.

I'm smoking one and frying a small one as well.

My Grandma wants roasted chicken. She just turned 93 and in hospice so that's what we're doin. Probably the last TG with her and it's just me, her, and my mom this year so that sounds good. I'm making my killer brussel sprouts dish though!

I think, therefore I'm.

Hope you'll have a fantastic TG with grandma! <3

We go to a family we're friends with in rural Washington. They tend to have at least two dozen people over, so there's more than one turkey and usually ham. Not sure whether spatchcoking will play a role. We usually bring some fresh sides or salad because that family is a bit traditional when it comes to things like fiber (suspicious) and vitamins (probably socialist).

Day after TG, we go to our in-laws, who also make a turkey. We usually bring a vegan roast, either from TJ or Whole Foods. Both are amazing. I'm not a vegan, but I'll happily pile vegan roast on top of turkey and drench everything with gravy.

I really look forward to watching Detroit play this TG. I'm 100% on the Lions bandwagon.

Regular Turkey and also a Turkey breast on the Traeger.  Ham included and the fixings.  My favorite part is the stuffing covered in gravy.  I hope everyone has a great day surrounded by family and friends!

edit…trying a butter, brown sugar, cranberry glaze over the ham also.  It looks amazing online…hope it’s as good on my plate!

Team deep fry here. Cajun butter injection, garlic cloves under the skin, peanut oil for frying. Turns out perfect every time!

I smoked my first turkey ever last weekend and it came out very delicous and juicy. I brined it over night and then injected with a mix of unsalted butter, maple syrup, and chipotle seasoning, and I used a mix of mesquite and apple wood pellets on the smoker. My friends told me it was the best turkey they've ever had.
