OT: Gonzaga to XII

Recommended Posts

Here we go again with Gonzaga joining XII in all sports (no football squad).  It will be voted upon soon enough.

Ya, I get it re commish Yormark.  Once the XII media rights expire along about 2029, he wants to split gridiron and hoops media deals in very separate financial buckets.  He wants a very separate hoops media deal on its own and not necessarily tied to gridiron.  IF this were ever to come to fruition, he has already started it all by offering both hoops and gridiron in Mexico.  Re hoops, Houston and Kansas are already playing in Mexico City.  Texas Tech and Oklahoma State are playing football south of the border IIRC.

Yormark wants to go international and I strongly applaud his efforts for doing so.

In other news, Notre Dame just re-upped their gridiron deal with NBC to 2029.  No financial terms were disclosed but Notre Dame remains highly financially okay, fine.

Interesting theory re St. Mary's.  IF this Gonzaga addition were to occur in XII land it makes for an uneven number of hoops teams.  However, in hoops even numbers do not really apply.  It matters most in football.  Allegedly St. John's in New York is whisper even-number squad re hoops.

UConn is never going to happen.  XII will not go all in for UConn.  Gonzaga and St. John's are non-football squads and they go all in for the hoops media rights (no gridiron media rights).  And of course, IF them two (or one) were to be added to XII, all of their sports are in.  As they should be.

In the end, my gut tells me no Gonzaga.  Like so many, we all wonder how well the ACC survives all locked up in its craptastic media deal to 2036.  If and when the ACC implodes by the end of the decade, opportunities abound to a very high degree.

Wow.  Thank you for scribing the PAC14.  This is the first time I have seen this moniker in scribe and I dig it much, I do.  This will happen within 2 years.  I like it much.  I do.  Gloria is a fantastic commish.  She is.

I think UNLV winds up in the Big 12 with San Diego State.

UNLV, San Diego State, Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, and Kansas State in one division.

Iowa State, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, UCF, Houston, TCU, Baylor, and Texas Tech in the other.

Those games he's referring to are shorter trips than some schools travel for OOC (and soon conf games).  The football game is still a work in progress.  And the basketball game is during winter break.

It gives me a headache just trying to think down to your level

Give him time.  Tokyo and Melbourne are calling that guy.  For enough money, he will send them.and say it is good for recruiting.

The long trips for conference games is part of the end of student athlete era.  What great ammo for a lawyer in court winning wages for athletes

You have the Big 12 confused with the Pac 12.

no.  that is the only way the Big 12 can compete for money with the SEC and BIG.  This is his only way to be the tallest midget.

He ain't going to the Far East.  The P12 failed with that gambit already.  Mexico is in the back yard.  The Hispanic market is available to cultivate. That and splitting the media deal are the moves.

And there is no way to compete with the SEC and Big 10.

What?  Is this how they teach you to write in Houston grade schools?

What’s a “scribe”?

Yeah, I don’t speak Houston Redneck, so I need help with translation.

It's technically correct, but nobody uses it that way, so he's trying to sound edumacated.
