10,000 ?!?! Isn't that less than Lawlor ??

Other than being new it's not that great for UNR...........It's off campus

Good for Reno/Sparks & northern NV because there is a need for an arena, but don't see this as a huge game changer for the NV BB program other than it's "new"

Maybe UNR needs the land Lawlor sits on for some other use - In that case it sort of makes sense

Its almost the same. I would assume there will be club seats / box seats that Lawlor doesn't have.

Edit: Lawlor is 11,536 multi-purpose seats. So less seating. Any renderings on the inside?

Guess the upgrade to a modern arena with amenities is the trade off for an off campus location - Also mentioned was minor league hockey

Looks like main selling point to UNR was the branding which seems to be focused on UNR despite being a potential multi-tenant & use facility

The centerpiece of the visionary project is a cutting-edge arena designed to host concerts, special events, basketball games and other sports. The arena capacity will exceed 10,000 seats and span 300,000 square feet with contemporary amenities, including suites and premium hospitality clubs. It could potentially put in bids to host NCAA Tournament games, among other events.

Looks like a driver is also the potential to host some NCAA regionals - Plus amenities that Lawlor doesn't have

Which Minor League team? Pipe dream they move the Henderson Silver Knights but they just built the DLC for them so that wont happen. An arena that size matches the AHL needs and we got the ECHL in Tahoe now.

While no firm timeline for the arena construction has been finalized, the hope is it would be ready for Nevada's 2026-27 season. The Wolf Pack would not contribute any money financially to the construction of the arena and would rather rent the space on gamedays. Pending approval from the Nevada Board of Regents, the Wolf Pack men's basketball team would play its home games in the arena with the Nevada women continuing to play on campus at the 11,536-capacity Lawlor Events Center, which opened in 1983 and has served as the home of both Nevada basketball teams the last four decades.

Merulo owns the PHX Coyotes.......... maybe he moves the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL up there since it;s a new arena & probably better than whatever place the AHL team is playing in now

This could also ding the ECHL team up at Tahoe, but INO that was a risky move from the get go for a team location

Looks like Tucson plays in a convention center type building based on this seating chart - So I'm guessing the AHL team moves in

Maybe. But the NHL is desperately trying to keep the Coyotes in Arizona especially the youth Hockey and having the AHL in Tucson helps that.

Coyotes can stay in Phx...........it's the AHL team that needs better digs & this arena provides that

Same reason Reno has the AZ D-Backs AAA team over Tucson..........Tucson has lousy old facilities & Reno has a new AAA stadium

Also that new Tower and Residential units is almost in the flight path of the Airport..........

Like anything built on the south strip..............FAA will have to sign off on the project...............probably why it's got a longer time frame

Apparently Lawlor will still remain - Women will stay in Lawlor

Overall it's a good project for Reno -- About time someone made a move to do something on this scale
