Yeah Nevada has a neutral game against Drake there this season. I believe that Events Center seats 7,000, and has essentially replaced Lawlor for all events and shows other than Nevada athletics.

It would definitely make sense to repurpose Lawlor at this point. It honestly seems like too valuable of a location to use as an IPF. That intersection is basically the front door to campus now.

Would be a shame to see Nevada BB play off campus, but it wouldn't be the first time..........in the 1970's they played their home games down at S Virginia & Kietzke Lane at the then named Centennial Colosseum, which also was home ice for a few years to the Reno Aces hockey team

Could Reno and Tahoe support 2 hockey teams?

Crap, forgot Tahoe is getting a team.............thinking that a team located in Reno would draw better that up at Tahoe where winter weather can make travel difficult

UNR's Edgar Jones during a WCAC game at the old Centennial Coliseum - The Battle Mountain banner was probably there because the state / or northern high school zone tournament was also played there - I played there in '78 when Reed was in state tournament - Lost to Sophomore PG Danny Tarkanian's Gorman team 😬

Another shot of UNR at the old CC - Remember the starters on that team.

Edgar Jones at the FT line with #42 Mike Longero (Carson HS) at right #21 Michael "fly' Gray behind EJ & Mike Stallings at left side of the lane........Johny High might be the '2" left of Gray behind Chapman College's #10 with arm out

GSR is only 3 miles from Campus, so not a huge deal.

The notion a thousand fans would be driving 1.25 hours to Stateline during winter to watch low minor league hockey was unlikely.  There are enough people in Douglas and Eldorado county to support that team, along with skiing tourists.

Old Reno is pretty small........is on 5 miles from UNR to old Cent Col where UNR played in 70's

UNR was north side of town & there wasn't much south of where Kietzke Lane hits S Virginia back in my RS days

I think, while a novel idea, the attendance will suffer............just don't see that many plying snowy mountain roads to go see ECHL hockey

Reno (if there was a viable arena) would have been the better business option

Meruelo has an interesting portfolio. He’s about to build a new arena for his NHL Arizona Coyotes team in Mesa. He owns the Sahara casino in Vegas, owns some TV and radio stations in LA including the legendary KLOS rock radio station. And owns other stuff. Must be nice to be a billionaire.

He bought the GSR for $42M out of recievorship from JP Morgam.  He basically bought it the lowest low and 2x below replacement value.  The dude has the midas touch.

Yeah, I remember old Reno very well. My aunt and uncle and 5 cousins lived on a ranch in Golden Valley in the 60’s and 70’s, and I’d spend time there every summer having a great time with them and their horses and animals. Henry the goat was a hoot. My uncle Jimmy took me to Pack games in the Fall sometimes. We’re talking as early as about 1968-69. It was a totally different world back then.

When it opened it was believed to be the largest hotel in the world.
