Well perhaps Dalmas is a better kicker?  He has a better career FG % than Talton at 88.9% vs 80.0% and extra point % at 98.3% vs 96.1%.  He's also better from 40+ yards - 83.3% vs 70.0%.  Why the hell should he be ranked ahead of him?  Solely because his longest FG is 5 yards longer than Dalmas?

Dalmus kicks a lot fewer from 40 and especially 50+ than Talton. Boise has the better offense so they don’t need as many long kicks. The big discrepancy in the fg percentages is because Talton gets run out there 3 times more often than Dalmas to score from 50 plus.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

Haha yeah Talton was our best weapon last season. When your offense can barely get across the 50, let alone into the red zone having a kicker who can boot it is huge.

I seem to remember we likely would've won the CSU game if Talton hadn't been hurt.

Which isn’t to say these other guys aren’t good kickers too. Unless we want to go back game by game and look at each play by play to plot where each fg attempt is on the field, simple percentages don’t tell the whole story. I know Talton has kicked plenty of 48-49 yarders which look the same as a 41 yarder in the 40-49 breakdown we use but anyone who watches the games knows it’s not. That guy has bailed us out of stalled drives as much as anyone in the country.

Exactly. Talton’s stats are on top, and Dalmus, below. Talton had a busted collarbone early in the season, so he didn’t kick much.

I think there needs to be 5 yard increment stats above 40:

40-44
45-49
50-54
55+

That would tell us much more.

Last year Talton had 2 50+ kicks. He made a 50, and missed a 57 at Iowa. Iowa was low elevation, hot & humid because of rain. He was about to kick the 57, and the game got delayed for hours because of lightning. After the delay, he came out to a wet field and had the 57 distance, but went just a tad wide right. Looking at the stats, for all we know, it could’ve been a missed 50.

Below, is a 55 he made in the spring game that had 58 to 58.5 distance. He’s proven he has the leg to kick long ball in even the worst case sea level, hot & humid conditions. A lot of games are close, and when you’re on your opponent’s 40 yard line with a couple seconds left and you can win or tie a game instead of throwing an near impossible Hail Mary, having a kicker that can do that is just huge.

@bsu_alum9, you told me BSU is going to struggle this year because of defense. I listen to you guys more than most publications.

38th seems pretty solid to me. Horseshit?

Pass Rush and Coverage defense should be improved.  Run defense takes a step back.  Skinner and Jones were big, long safeties that were amazing in the run game but liabilities against the pass.  Their replacements are fantastic cover guys. Likely two starting CB's did not play last year.  Mattlock in the middle is a big loss.  I think defense is a push and offense takes a step forward.  38 seems about right.  Could end up much better or a little worse.  With Our run game we can't possibly be significantly worse.  Two NFL caliber RB's (both first team all conference) and Green at QB will be a run game few defenses will do well against.

To be honest, it wasn't encouraging going through what everyone lost. Everyone seems to have some holes to fill.

In many ways the league is like the AVN convention.

I don't know what that is.

Wyoming annually tends to be my most difficult to predict. When I'm down in them, they go .500. When I buy in on the pokes, they go .500. They actually look like they have a pretty good squad coming back this year... so I'm guessing they go .500.

Agree, our best years seem to be when we have low to no expectations.

PS- The AVN is the adult film awards show that happens in Vegas, think Oscars but a bit more Wild. (see what i did there).

PPS- Any joke that needs to be explained is inherently not funny. My apologies.

Ahh yes, being familiar with of the name of that yearly porno awards show is a clear sign of a cultured mind. See how I drink my tea with my pinky extended.

Yeah 38th is below average for Boise even over the last 5 years.

You guys got me all sold on Green last year. I think the MWC is a better conference with Boise ranked.

I hope so, but just am not confident enough to be hooping and hollering about this team. If they beat (or play close) the (Athlon #9) Huskies first game of the year we’ll know they are legit.

Green is far and away the scariest QB in the G5.  You'd have to be nuts not to have Boise penciled in for the NY6 game.

CSU’s inability to produce results is approaching Miami level right now.  CSU does ok at it but could dominate g5 recruiting, but development seems to be a struggle.

Hide & watch carpetbagger.

HC MJN-III's 1st real recruiting class is just now rolling in to Ft Fun.

UCF will be lucky to get 4 wins this year.

Can the B12 get a refund? They bought a lemon.
