Any small business owners on the board?

Recommended Posts

A friend and I have started a pool and spa cleaning business.  We've been in business for about a month, limited advertising ( Facebook linked sites and a website) have 20 pools already, mostly coming from recommendations.

Need advice on whether I should go the 1099 route.

Edit: we have an LLC. Currently my business partner is listed. We are trying to decide the best way to add me or ?

I feel I could  help here, but I'll need more clarity on what you are asking. I do tons of accounting /tax work for small businesses

My $.02: Unless you're making over $170K you'll pay more off the 1099 (25%?) than you would if you structured it as income. I mean, you'll have to file taxes for the LLC anyway, right?

But I am sure there are a shitton of variables I am ignoring here as a layman (e.g., capital gains). I'm guessing that granular detail is what a CPA like borne would need to give you a detailed and accurate answer to your question.

Good luck, seems like a competitive business, hope you can model a business with good margins.

Full of morons, he’ll do very well if he can show people how badly their pools are being taken care of (which is easy via water test). I’ve been in my house less than 3 years and am on my 4th pool company.

Right now if you can actually show up when you say you will and even just do a decent job most people will continue to hire you.

If you are good at your job it is easy to run circles around the competition in almost any business.

The business climate right now is depressing as far as customer service and businesses actually doing what they say they will do.

Curious as to what he’s charging, I’m paying $110 a month for a weekly pool service. I’d gladly pay more for great service!

We are the only people I know who have been fired by their pool cleaners... on principle.

I didn't do shit to maintain the pool - I simply asked them to shock it, or do whatever was necessary to keep it in swimmable condition. I think my lack of respect over years for both the pool and the process resulted in a big "FU" from them.

Best thing to happen for my pool tho, as it forced me to better understand the equipment and what was required to keep a pool healthy. This in turn allowed me to ascertain that those c*nts sent from a nationally franchised service provider to clean the filter panels were trying to rip us off. Now my wife and I do it about twice a year (and we clean the pool filter panels twice a year too ).

All this aside, I think we all know @DestinFlPackfan is simply getting into the business for the Penthouse letteresque porn opportunities.

I thought this was going to be about midget entrepeneurs....

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I’ve got a saltwater pool with a heat pump, first dickwad was dumping chlorine tablets into the filter which blew out our pool pump (thankfully before I upgraded everything). Walked up to him and said I never want to see your +++++ing face on my property again. He knew exactly why, I don’t deal with companies that pay their guys per pool. That’s when you get the splash and dash assholes.

The twat sent over by the aforementioned company removed the barrel nut from the O-ring sealing the two halves of the filter canister and told me it was stripped and that he would have to replace the entire O-ring at a cost of $500. :waiting:

I suspected the barrel nut could be replaced without replacing anything else except the bolt onto which it threaded, but even then told him I would simply use my tap and die set to rethread both if necessary.

Turns out it was not necessary, as the shitstain was lying about the barrel nut being stripped as well. M'rF'r simply fabricated an issue, and then scaled it and lied about the replacement costs. Think I pulled the whole Marsellus Wallace "Do I look like a bitch? Then why are you trying to f*ck me like one?" routine on him when he came back to bring me the barrel nut.

Yeah, f*ck those guys. I mean, we all have to make a living, but f*ck those guys.
