They prefer controlling ancillary revenues which comes with having your own place. That was the issue involving the stadiums vote(s) in SD. I suspect, but do not know, that there's a deal between the school and the new ownership group. The stadium being up and running was likely a decent contributing factor, especially since the University made no secret from the jump that soccer was something that the University was looking to host as part of its civic obligation. And though I know it benefits paying down the debt service, the University should not make it too expensive and allow the soccer club to enjoy whatever profits it garners, and not screw them over like other stadium owners do to its tenants. I thought the Kermit "but that's none of my business" gif would have made that clear. Most SoccerCity and anti-SDSU folks were adamant that only SoccerCity would get MLS here. AztecSU Posted May 19 Share Posted May 19 JMO, but the key was probably that the development of a lot of the site is still open-ended (besides park space) and this will likely provide the MLS club/ownership with the revenue opportunities to make up for not owning the whole thing themselves.
