She is right about that, for sure. She’s also being disingenuous when she says that that locking up more people will fix this or that abstract mental health interventions will stop the carnage. If we’re tired of anti-gun activists reaching for a solution that cannot be, then we should also be tired of pro-gun people lying to themselves that guns aren’t a big part of the problem in a country where there are so many that anyone who wants one can easily get one. It would be refreshing if we were all honest and said this is just part of American life, and it won’t change until the culture changes. In our current environment, I’ve yet to see an idea that is both politically feasible and has the potential to make a real impact.

The problem is the clowns could have passed mental healthcare by now.  They lve to talk aboit " talking points" but they never get around to backing up theirs.

I think a huge disconnect is GOP leaders have drilled in very, very well into their voters that any reform is just Democrats trying to take their guns. Hard stop.

Some might say, C’mon, these people can see deeper than this right?  But can they? Look at many of the MAGAs/GOPs here. I’ve heard them say everyone is trying to ban guns all the time.

Who cares what these troglodytes think?  Time to run them over.  A large majority wants change.

Because they’re lying. The mental health “solution” is an obfuscation.

Basic reality is the GOP plays up peoples fears...........almost every singular GOP focused "policy" is based on fear

1) GUNS = Any talk of any gun control is equated that the "evil, overbearing" government is coming for your guns & you'll be helpless to overthrow the government" - This is sold as "freedom" (see various posts in this thread)

2) Abortion  = Totally plays to the chisto-fascist right who insist on every baby born, but once the umbilical cord is cut, they vote down any help poor kids might need

3) SOCIALISM / COMMUNISM = This appeals to the GOP low IQ white trash base who's been sold that somebody might be getting something they aren't at their taxpayer expense, while voting for GOP'ers who pump billions into the socialist military industrial complex

4) PEDOPHILIA (this is their new boogie man) = Can't have any drag shows, gay mentions or any sex education.....this position pushed by the 'christians' who attend churches that are rife with man boy love especially in the Catholic church where it's a 10 century tradition

The party that screams about FREEDOM is out there banning books, sexual expression, & anything else they can ban 👇

I'm no fan of shooting up Wall Street or Main Street. It would be nice if we could agree to some real reform rather than pointing fingers at bad ideas in order to excuse doing nothing. While more people die.

I don’t think any advocated for it. Merely said nothing will be change until the legislatures or their money men are targets.  How many mass shootings does it take for that reality to sink in?   The truth isn’t always pleasant or nice but it can still be the truth.

anyone care to bet $1000 that something will change after this shooting either?  I’ve got 1000 that says nothing will.

I see comments about how certain images and video are too graphic to show.

Well maybe if we started showing these graphic videos and images something might actually get done. Like common sense controls on weapons that belong in war zones but not in the hands of private citizens.

Let's stop white washing the violence and show the graphic images. Here's the cost of unfettered access to weapons.

One of the Final Five..........

She’s right. It only took two pages for posters here to go from “everyone who doesn’t do exactly what I want is complicit” to “maybe if somebody shot up Wall Street and legislatures we’d get what we want”. Can’t believe nobody is buying that line of thinking.

You are such a POS.  You argue pro-2nd Amendment and yet…..

here we have a significant majority who would like reasonable constraints.  But because of money, electoral college and gerrymandering the nation currently lives under a tyrannical minority that insists our children die going to school or the mall.

Stopping this kind of shit is the point of the 2nd Amendment.

Like I said I understand we have issues. But we are fortunate than most people out here. Just ask why so many immigrants wanna move here every year? Where would you rather live my dude?

If the bar is "better than Venezuela or El Salvador", it's not the compliment you think it is.

Yeah well real reform requires reaching a compromise with the fans of shooting up Wall Street and Main Street. Not a great first foot forward for building trust.

Part of the solution might be ignoring the idiots? All I see is people pumping the idiots to avoid a real discussion.

Most here and in general agree on what should be the next steps…

  • 77% support requiring a 30-day waiting period for all gun purchases.
  • Vast majorities also support raising the legal age to buy guns to 21 (81%) and requiring mental health checks for all gun purchasers (80%).
  • 80% of voters say police should be allowed take guns away from people considered a danger to themselves or others.
  • 61% of voters support banning assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons.

and yet none of these things will happen.  Even if you somehow got a few house Reps to vote for them it will never pass cloture in the Senate.

You tell me what is the real discussion to overcome a intransigent minority holding the country hostage?  I respect your opinion and am all ears.

We have been having this same discussion for over a decade.

The government should come up with an anti gun campaign that splashes these images everywhere. Commercials, billboards, social media... we need a war on guns instead of a war on drugs.

I'm not calling for confiscation. I'm calling for bringing this discussion out in the open. Show commercials with classroom kids in active shooter drills. Show the carnage.

Throw real money at a Federal gun buyback. Pay market value plus 10%. Stop the manufacturing on all semi auto long guns. Within a year stop the manufacturing of all semi auto guns. All.

It's really not that hard to do.

You have to vote them out or get a supermajority to change the rules.

Well clearly voting them out has not worked.  You have waited a decade and gun laws have only gotten more lax.  How many children are you willing to sacrifice?

None. I thought I was clear on that.

So your solution is that there is no possible solution?

Again has any topic had more threads on it?  How much discussion do you think would be possible?

You seem to want to enable the gun lobby by throwing in the towel.

A true inspiration.

I think handguns still lead as the overall weapon used in this garbage.

But damn, how many AR-15s have we seen just this year? Same story too. Just bought it. With social media rants and or manifesto/cries for help that went unnoticed.
