I thought that maybe when gun violence leapt out of the ghettos and into suburbia, things would be better discussed in the legislature, similar to when drugs were not just a ghetto problem anymore.

You underestimate the power of monied gun lobby’s on our legislature and apparently our Supreme Court.  It might only change when and if the guns are targeted at them instead of children.

Besides yesterday's shooter, Allen TX was the home of the 2019 El Paso Walmart shooter.

Likely different motivations for the two but the same behavior was used to deal with what was in their heads.
