Trump Arrest Thread

Yep. I’ve said for years that one of Trump’s most enduring legacies is that he has made everyone dumber, both friend and foe.

If you can indict a ham sandwich, you should be able to indict someone for this.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

And yet the Republican Party is still his and will be for the next election cycle.  It's bizarre.  I watched his speech after the indictment and it was as crazy as ever.  Oh well.  I guess we'll get to see Trump and Biden go at it again.  Somehow in a nation of over 300M people, these are the 2 best guys we can find to run for president.

wrong thread?

Lol. Should be Trump's theme song.  The crime goes on forever.

I'm partial to Joe Ely's more folk rock version from Love and Danger.  I heard him and REK do the song together on Mountain Stage (iirc) awhile back.  Great Americana anthem.

George was talented and often funny, but kind of douche. He had a knack for interesting and smart insights, but they were almost always superficial like this bit.  Fvck George Carlin. Lol.

He cracks me up.

I may take his advice on the top of the ballot. You won't be able to hold me responsible for whoever is elected the next president. We are pretty much Fuc**d whoever it is.

Maybe I won't vote at all, IDK, Much more important things in my life than who the governor, representative, president ... is

When I was a kid, his dirty words and stuff was hilarious.  He had great timing and mannerism.  A great comic.

I see Carlin often trending on Twitter usually with some political insights that posters feel relevant to news.  He appealed to the nihilism in people.  Trump sort of does that.  George often wrapped up the complexity of our world with static determinism and many thought/think that profound.

He was indeed hilarious. I just only discovered his comedy about a year ago, so please pardon my trying to inject it into relevant current events.

I do think he served a purpose by peeling off a layer or two from the surface.  Got some folks thinking. I mean, there are forces in our society that shape our views and behaviors.  They just aren't so absolute in determinism.

I have my whole life. I have never missed an election.

I will probs leave the presidential part of the ballot blank, there are a lot of local and state races, bond measures etc that my vote has some meaning on though.

But then I don’t get why you’re posting the Carlin clip. He thought voting period was dumb, not just voting for President. So you completely disagree with him.

Because it is funny.

It is possible to appreciate the humor and only somewhat agree with the truth of it.

Yup, this one is going to roll on for a very long time.

Good. According to her contacts, former Trump WH staffer and now CNN contributor Alyssa Farah Griffin has said this legal stuff has been really bothering Mr. Grumpy. That's pretty obvious by how much Mr. G has ridiculed not just the folks involved with his NY escapades but also federal prosecutor Jack Smith. Examples: Name calling Smith and hilariously asserting that Jack Smith wasn't always the guy's name. (Well, that was his name in his HS yearbook and Smith couldn't have changed it before then because he wasn't of age.)

I had just graduated HS when Nixon resigned and after what Gerald Ford called "our national nightmare," I thought there would never be such a disreputable person in the WH again. However, Trump has made Nixon look small time in comparison. The Republican leadership's refusal to turn their back on Grumpy has made me think that an event of double-epic proportions by the POS is needed to prevent another such recurrence. Lock him up! And throw away the key!
