IF FBS had a true playoff, BSU would probably have made it within sniffing distance of playing in the big game.  It doesn't.  Men's BB does have a true playoff and SDSU just played in the big game.  FCS has a true playoff and any team that wins enough can get into the big game.  This is why I have always, since day 1, said that the FBS should have a true playoff.  It should be a 16 team format - not this single digit or BCS shit.  As of now, FBS is rigged and there is very little chance of any MWC (or future PAC) team of getting in.  It's complete shit and it's the only reason, aside from playing Montana, that the FCS has any appeal whatsoever.

I'd take the Fiesta Bowl but that's simply because we want to move up and football/markets drive the bus...Memphis hoops is a known commodity while Memphis football's reputation would be far higher improved by making a 2nd Access Bowl in 5 seasons.

WHICH Boise State Fiesta bowl game?  2007,  2010 or 2014?

Regardless of which of these three Boise State Fiesta Bowl game appearances the fact is Boise State won all three of those Fiesta Bowl games over Oklahoma, T.C.U. and Arizona.   San Diego State's one and only appearance in the NCAA men's BB final four resulted in the Aztecs getting throttled by U-Conn.

But personally I'd say Boise State making it to three Fiesta Bowl games and winning all three games is FAR more impressive than San Diego State making in to a final four game ONE time - only to get embarrassed and man-handled by U-Conn.

SDSU beat 4 good basketball teams within 3 weeks. In the future It will get better recruits if that is even possible. It will be back competing for years to come.

It reminds of Bum Phillips statement:

"Last year we knocked on the door.

This year we beat on it.

Next year we're going to kick the son of a bitch in!"

Winning a bowl game is not comparable.

Frequently, some of the best players on a football team skip a bowl game for various reasons, such as not risking as injury on a meaningless game, preparing for the NFL, etc,

That said it is simply harder for non power teams to build elite football teams than elite basketball teams.  Much harder.  Does that make it more impressive?  I guess it depends on the criteria.  The building of the 2007 Fiesta Bowl winning roster and coaching staff and their year round execution is more impressive than the building of SDSU's BB roster and staff and year round performance....but the single Fiesta Bowl game is less impressive than the consecutive wins in the NCAAT.

So, a good argument could be made for both.

Boise wasn't playing for the natty in any 3 of those Bowls, as awesome as they were, and Zona in 2014 were frauds.
