The "UN"-Official SDSU to the Pac thread.

Recommended Posts

Sounds like conferences, the media, and fans have decided that the socal market isn't all that important to anyone... not the P10, the nB12, or even the MWC...

I mean it seems all of the reasons Sdsu sounded like they would be a good add for nearly the last 12 months now don't matter because they sent a letter to the MWC... that's about the size of it, right?

Excellent post, KV. The linked article is also hilarious in showing what a terrible addition UCF is for the B12.

I honestly think UCF was a great addition to the Big 12, and that SDSU and its Mission Valley expansion is as good or better of an addition for either the Pac 12 or Big 12.

The main difference between the two schools is that UCF football peaked at the right time and it already had its new on campus stadium when the Big 12 came calling.

It's all a media and message board dramafest with no actual substance.

The Pac 12 isn't going to invite or not invite SDSU based on a letter authored by the President of SDSU regardless of what her behind-the-times, whiny, old-man-yelling-at-clouds detractors say. She's not getting fired, and her legacy is intact. She is a great representative and advocate for SDSU in every single way.

Also, the MWC isn't going to kick SDSU out based on those letters either - because SDSU is a major contributor to the conference AND they won't want to give SDSU a legal reason to not pay anything at all for leaving.

Substance??  You want substance?  Who gives a crap?  Name the last time the national sports media were talking about SDSU or the MWC in July?  This is gold!  Screw substance.

Didn't see your post when I made mine.  Agree with you.

I've never seen Wicker or de la Torre say anything about deserving a full share from the get-go. Of course, expansion media coverage is a mish-mash of questionable sourcing and opinions presented as facts.

Does De La Torre saying pro rata count?

“I’m really confident about our future in a Power 5 conference,” de la Torre said last week, speaking with the Union-Tribune at the announcement for an MLS expansion team at Snapdragon Stadium beginning in 2025. “I’m also confident that, when we talk about the Pac-12, they need to get the best deal possible for us to get the pro rata share we deserve.

It's the 'deserve' part that's hilarious/arrogant/out-of-touch/all-of-the-above.

It gives me a headache just trying to think down to your level

And they have a much much larger fanbase across the country, not just regionally in an area that values cfb greater.

And their athletic department is run much better.

And they have better players…and recruiting grounds…and more money…

The San Diego U-T editorial board decides to pile on.

"The present showdown that San Diego State University finds itself in with the Mountain West Conference is another reminder that communication hasn't been a SDSU strength in recent years.

<snip>

San Diegans should hope this matter is resolved as tidily as possible without SDSU fans and alumni suffering — and state taxpayers being punished — because of a bureaucratic dispute. But former Fox Sports President Bob Thompson is right when he says this mess would have been avoided with a minimum of due diligence. Whatever spin SDSU may offer, the problem began with de la Torre writing that she was “formally noticing” the conference of SDSU’s intention to move on. Months after the Aztecs reached the NCAA men’s basketball championship game for the first time in school history, SDSU athletics is again the focus of national attention — but for an embarrassing, avoidable reason."

Yet, you will go 3-9 this year. “Big Time Ball” in Orlando.

But for some reason, you can’t sell out your rust bucket stadium the last 5 years on average.

And your TV Ratings are subpar. 61st in that nation in ratings isn’t so hot.

Tv ratings are not sub par.  You play temple and Tulsa and get back to me about your ratings.  We do great on attendance, something like 98% capacity on average considering p5’s won’t play us at home unless they have to.  Again I’d like to see your attendance with smu and Houston’s being the big draw.

But with UCF’s large fanbase, shouldn’t you carry the ratings no matter what?

Didn’t Louisville just smoke you in Orlando last year?

Tell everyone about “West Coast Bias” again. And how the P12 falls apart at the end of the year in rankings.

Wilner. Canzano.  Thamel.  Catfish Tony.  Preseason polls.  End of season results.  LA has its own sportscenter.  Pretty simple, in fact both true statements slap you in the face if you can be honest..which you can’t.
