I don't see any notion of the MWC needing to do anything to be "fair" or that not doing so is some type of retribution or dickish move.  We have a contract.  We agreed to it.  That is the "fair" part.  I also think there is nothing wrong with SDSU looking at options regarding a potential exit.

I view it like a lease, where someone is looking to terminate the contract early.  If the lessor-lessee relationship was great, the lessor could allow for an early termination, a pro-rated rate, waive early termination fees, or they could not.  To go against the contract for the sake of the lessor shows a great relationship manifesting itself into largesse.  That isn't "fair", that is a great relation and action.  But there is nothing wrong with saying "Hey, we signed a deal, and you are looking to move on, so we have the contract and you know the deal".  Now that is "fair".

At least let us discuss this rationally.

You do understand the value of money when compared with time, right? You know, lottery payments can be taken in a lump sum or paid over time. The lump sum is a significantly reduced value, though the installment deal is spread out over 30 years. Same can be said of these media contracts, they are heavily backloaded for the same reason. Also, installment payments, even equalized for value, are still easier on cash flow than a lump sum payment.

Again, the MWC can play hardball, but it will not be a good look for them should they want to add a quality school later one. Who wants to join a conference that punishes and tries to hold hostage a school that's success led to an elevation? Again, I am sure CSU, AFA, BSU and UNLV (according to a poster on here) are paying attention to how the MWC treats SDSU. CSU has been vetted by the PAC as a possible replacement for CU should they leave for the B12. I could see them being a B12 target should they not poach any PAC schools, which looks unlikely.

Dude, you’re like SDSU’s very own version of ph90702. Are you also on the spectrum? I’ll feel bad making fun of you if you are.

Post where any representative of SDSU mentioned disdain for the MWC? I'll wait.

The only quasi example I could find was three years ago.  This wasn't disdain, but it was disappointment when the MW initially decided on playing 20 league games prior to the '20-'21 season.

https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/aztecs/story/2020-05-18/san-diego-state-sdsu-aztecs-basketball-mountain-west-20-game-conference-schedule

"Extremely disappointed that the rest of the league wanted to go to 20 games,” SDSU Athletic Director John David Wicker said Monday. “We’ll just have to figure out how to deal with that.”

The battle goes back to Steve Fisher’s days as SDSU head coach. He regularly advocated for a 16- or even 14-game schedule, which in his mind provided more opportunities to play quality nonconference opponents in November and December.

The SMU thing is just so weird.  SMU's attendance and TV ratings are bad.   It isn't tied into the community.   It is viewed with disdain as a rich kids school.   There is money and boosters but no fans.

North Texas has more fans and had no value for TV contracts.  It is a lot like Super WAC thinking, just believing if there is a team in the market it will deliver TV money.  It didn't work then and it won't work now.

Boise has more TV power and better fans.   Fresno has TV drawing power than SMU.  I hope the PAC doesn't do SuperWAC 2.0 with SMU.....

Bye Bye, Best of luck! !! May the MWC survive, and prosper

Bro… Take a breath for a second.  I realize your entire motivation is for SDSU to get out of Dodge as fast as possible with out paying your mortgage but it doesn’t work this way.

SDSU signed a legal binding contract. They knew exactly what was in the contract before they signed. Playing hardball would be the MWC asking for more than what was in the contract

From a business stand point, if SDSU leaves, the MWC loses their best basketball team, a top of the conference football team, Southern California direct recruiting trips. Not to mention,  it destabilizes the conference in other ways like future media contracts. This all has a big, long term price tag attached to it.

Also, this tells current schools and potential schools that they mean business when it comes to this. If they make deals with every school that wants to leave, why sign a school wide contract to begin with?

Once you start making deals, everyone will expect a deal after that.

No, not unless CU were to go to the B12. <---I Of course.  If uc-bison stay, CSU is looking towards the BIG-12.  If Bison PriME bolts, CSU's focus is on the 12-Pac.

I agree w/the rest below.  The PAC wants wants Dallas' 2.96M TV sets. Yes, SMU isn't the big player in that market now but they have the money to improve and the P5 gives them the platform they need to do so. Were CU to leave for the B12 (ain't happening), I think CSU would be added just to replace them, with the PAC also adding SDSU and SMU as planned. If I were the B12, I wouldadd CSU and Memphis as the locations plays to their strengths if the PAC stays together and adds SDSU and SMU. Academically, however, CSU is more aligned with the PAC than the B12.

MWC has 3 more years for the TV deal. It is very rational for the MWC to want to maintain its current membership for two more years, it’ll allow them to address the replacement (or not) of SDSU when they will normally negotiate a new deal. Not really sure how a case can be made that this is the MWC playing “hardball”.

BYU, Utah, and TCU all took far more value from the conference than $11M.  Sheesh, some of you Aztec fans sure have an inflated sense of worth.  😂

Yeah, all those Thursday night games on Vs. and the Mtn., which wasn't available on cable in the MW's most important market (SLC).

What a jackpot… $11 million paid out over six years and divided 10+ ways. I hope the conference schools don’t spend it all in one place.

Jealous much ?

You have a warped sense of what a jackpot is.

$28 mil / 11 Schools= 2.6 mil per School. Not a bad windfall. Especially for the Schools with smaller Revenue Streams.

It's not AAC money, but it's better than nada.
