If the MWC wants to expand, it should treat its current members fairly. Last I looked, SDSU schedules games in both FB and BB with BYU, who left the MWC. I am sure CSU, AFA, Boise and UNLV are paying attention to how the conference is treating a member than is leaving for a better conference. When SDSU leaves, they are leaving behind $11M in MM units . Don't recall Utah, BYU or TCU leaving behind such a financial gift. Also, pretty sure SDSU isn't the party who leaked the letter to the press.

Isn't honoring the contract "fair"?

BYU, Utah, and TCU all took far more value from the conference than $11M.  Sheesh, some of you Aztec fans sure have an inflated sense of worth.  😂

The units argument won't go far since units are payable to the Conference.

The MW hit a smallish jackpot with the Exit Fees and MM Units.

The AAC hit a Mega millions jackpot with four Schools leaving.

What a jackpot… $11 million paid out over six years and divided 10+ ways. I hope the conference schools don’t spend it all in one place.

He said exit fees and MM units…so at least $28M

Utah and TCU gave the MWC money from 4 BCS Bowls. Utah gave the MWC about 14 NCAA tourney units.

BYU was pretty darn good in both sports as well.  11 tourney units.

I think all three schools added to the conference piggy bank quite well while in the MWC.

Fairly? Over on Cougarboard they are reminiscing about 2011 when a SDSU Associate Athletic Director wrote a Big 12 president wanting to talk about the disadvantages of inviting BYU to their conference. It took BYU another 10 years to finally get their invite. SDSU is not one who should bring up treating conference mates fairly in conference moves.

Is that verified?

Cougarboard might be the most delusional insecure/tear infested site on the internet. I’d quadruple check info that comes from the nut farm.

I'm pretty sure SDSU didn't agree with tripling the exit fee to $15M in 2021 or doubling in if less than a year's notice is given in 2022. Likely BSU, CSU and AFA didn't agree to it as well. Would like to know which schools did, however.

I'd like to see those meeting minutes also.

The exit fee was increased in April 2021, that was before SDSU, BSU, AFA and CSU flirted with going to the AAC.

It would have taken a 3/4s vote to put the increased fee in place. Only 3 could have voted against it. But for all we know it could have been unanimous after discussions.

Tulsa newspaper supposedly used FOIA requests to get the email. I cannot find the old Tulsa article right now. But the SL Trib wrote several articles about it over the years.

The Aztecs have had the premiere OOC scheduling in this Conference for over a decade and into the 2030's.

Two Pac and Schools yearly and 6 future SEC tilts with Boomer Sooners and Mizzou. They will have no troubles.

I would like to see them schedule future games with Fresno and Sparty. Keep the old CCAA and PCAA rivalries going.

I personally will miss the old MW rivalries. The WAC/MW was good to SDSU.

Fresno might be a hard game to get. They become the BYU light. PAC needs butts in seats and a TV audience. With BYU unavailable Fresno is up. Unfortunately they only have 4 non-conference games compared to BYUs 12. I suppose BSU might be in high demand as well.

Conference realignment is full of negotiations. Something will be negotiated. Those who think the MWC won’t negotiate haven’t paid very close attention to expansion.

Right, just like Boise State is open to negotiating the term sheet.

Well you negotiated with them. I’m sure you will do the same for SDSU.

the MM units shouldn't have anything to do with it...they belong to the conference

you want the $$$...so stay

I’m not arguing the the MM units shouldn’t stay…I’m pointing out that the “smallish jackpot” Spaztecs was referring to was $28M, not the $11M NorCalCoug was laughing at.

UNLV did NOT vote to increase the fees, fwiw.

Yep, was reported in multiple outlets at the time. It was some lady that worked in the SDSU AD at the time who sent an email to the BigXII expounding on all the difficulties of having BYU as a conference partner and how they were difficult to work with.

I don't see any notion of the MWC needing to do anything to be "fair" or that not doing so is some type of retribution or dickish move.  We have a contract.  We agreed to it.  That is the "fair" part.  I also think there is nothing wrong with SDSU looking at options regarding a potential exit.

I view it like a lease, where someone is looking to terminate the contract early.  If the lessor-lessee relationship was great, the lessor could allow for an early termination, a pro-rated rate, waive early termination fees, or they could not.  To go against the contract for the sake of the lessor shows a great relationship manifesting itself into largesse.  That isn't "fair", that is a great relation and action.  But there is nothing wrong with saying "Hey, we signed a deal, and you are looking to move on, so we have the contract and you know the deal".  Now that is "fair".

At least let us discuss this rationally.
