Yep. We are leaving the MWC with $11M in MM units. But, if the MWC wants to play hardball, they can. Not sure it is their best interest to do so.

It 100% is in their best interest.  And hardball they will play and there isn’t a damn thing SDSU can do about it.  Your takes are among the worst on this board 😂.

There’s precedent and expectation to negotiate on exit fees, etc. There is none of a conference bending over backwards for an exiting school on things like SDSU is requesting.  Let’s see how far the units argument takes SDSU.

Just because some Aztec fan(s) is making that argument doesn’t mean SDSU is. This is simply the negotiation process playing out.

Thank heavens we don’t have Hair in charge of this transition. He would negotiate the conference paying SDSU to leave

His handling of the Donks was a real stinker.

If presidents of schools ever want to play SDSU again there should be some sort of negotiation on the exit terms.

Didn’t he negotiate a boob job for his wife? I would say that robe is a damn good negotiator.

After reading that article it's pretty clear where many of the Aztec fans are getting their talking points.

Who the heck knows how this is going to end up... down to the wire.  I did find it interesting that SDSU's AD did leave the possibility of staying in the MW until 2025-26 on the table.  I wasn't expecting to read that.

When San Diego State leaves they will need the MWC more than the MW will need them. We don't need to make any concessions

I know you are all confused. A certain San Diego poster said if we play hardball we won't schedule nonconference games. We don't need San Diego St to fill our nonconference schedule. There are plenty of P-5 teams to fill our nonconference games who will pay double what San Diego St could afford to pay. Trust me your AD will be filling your non-conference games with FCS teams, Cal Poly Sac St for the next 5 years.

They had better have a Pac invite etched in stone.

Dumb move if Pac expansion doesn't happen.

Between the tourney credits and exit fee, the rest of the conference will be living off of SDSU welfare checks for the forseeable future should they exit.

Also, they may be waiting to see what the Pac 12 media deal is, and if more current PAC schools leave the conference for the Big 12 or Big 10. They may be waiting to see if a Big 12 invite is in the works, and which one would work best for them.

Congrats to SUDS, but if the aztecs are indeed leaving for either conference, they don't need an extension. If their deals fall through, they can go independent, lol.

Or, they can wait a year.

Independence would be a disaster for the AD.

They lack the fanbase and the financial support of a Fortune 500 Religion.

Who else are they going to play OOC ?

The Mac ?

As soon as SDSU officially joins a P5, all future OOC scheduling is up for evaluation.

Looking at some of the football and basketball schedules, I am still confused how any P5 team (if we get there) would need the MWC more than the inverse.  Especially since the bottom half of the P5's are doing HnH's more than buying body bag games with FBS schools.

The units argument won't go far since units are payable to the Conference.

The MW hit a smallish jackpot with the Exit Fees and MM Units.

The AAC hit a Mega millions jackpot with four Schools leaving.

The Aztecs have had the premiere OOC scheduling in this Conference for over a decade and into the 2030's.

Two Pac Schools yearly and 6 future SEC tilts with Boomer Sooners and Mizzou. They will have no troubles.

I would like to see them schedule future games with Fresno and Sparty. Keep the old CCAA and PCAA rivalries going.

I personally will miss the old MW rivalries. The WAC/MW was good to SDSU.

If the MWC wants to expand, it should treat its current members fairly. Last I looked, SDSU schedules games in both FB and BB with BYU, who left the MWC. I am sure CSU, AFA, Boise and UNLV are paying attention to how the conference is treating a member than is leaving for a better conference. When SDSU leaves, they are leaving behind $11M in MM units . Don't recall Utah, BYU or TCU leaving behind such a financial gift. Also, pretty sure SDSU isn't the party who leaked the letter to the press.

Hardball is enforcing a contract SDSU agreed to?

I'm pretty sure SDSU didn't agree with tripling the exit fee to $15M in 2021 or doubling in if less than a year's notice is given in 2022. Likely BSU, CSU and AFA didn't agree to it as well. Would like to know which schools did, however.

The Chargers leaving was the best thing to ever happen to SUDS.

To San Diego as well. The MV site will generate much more income to the city than anything the Chargers would have done.
