If the deadline is 6/30, why pull the trigger early if there is no invite set in stone?

They haven't formally told the MW they are leaving.  They are trying to negotiate their exit fee because they know they won't get an invite before June 30th.

Got it.  Sorry, have not been following it very closely.

Pretty bold of them to expect concessions.

Between the tourney credits and exit fee, the rest of the conference will be living off of SDSU welfare checks for the forseeable future should they exit.

And we all will appreciate that for the next few years. Even one more good reason to not help in facilitating this move any earlier that necessary. If the Tecs stay one more year there will undoubtedly be even more credits earned next year. So why negotiate for less money to aid in SDSU leaving earlier to only lose even more potential revenue in the future.

Too bad BSu was such a poor investment.

Never hurts to ask.

True. You'll never know if you don't ask.

You guys are all sounding like welfare queens! 😂

In all honesty, us Aztec fans would probably be making the same snide comments if the tables were turned.

Enjoy the $ we bequeathed you over the next few years. At least you’ll have something to remember us by.

P.S. I’ve set this message to self destruct if it all falls to pieces.

The MWC shouldn’t give an extension or any other concession. What’s in it for the MWC? It’s a pretty simple business decision.

Yep.  If it is purely a business decision for SDSU, it should be purely a business decision for the conference  as well.

Also, they may be waiting to see what the Pac 12 media deal is, and if more current PAC schools leave the conference for the Big 12 or Big 10. They may be waiting to see if a Big 12 invite is in the works, and which one would work best for them.

Congrats to SUDS, but if the aztecs are indeed leaving for either conference, they don't need an extension. If their deals fall through, they can go independent, lol.

Or, they can wait a year.

And though it is unlikely to end just as badly, they have already once announced their exit only to have their intended destination conference utterly implode on them.  Once bitten, twice shy, I suppose.

Yep. They were sweating bullets for a minute, before the MW let them back in, lol.

I wonder who makes the call on this.

The conference or the Pres/AD at the schools

The voting conference presidents would make the decision on a concession. The conference commissioner can recommend a course of action but she would not have the authority to change a conference policy that is in the bylaws.

Probably not lost on SDSU.  If the MWC gives the old FU and SDSU stays for another year because if it, I wonder if that sort of rigidity, mixed with the spite from the BE fallout, turns off any team even thinking about joining on a lateral like move.

Yep. We are leaving the MWC with $11M in MM units. But, if the MWC wants to play hardball, they can. Not sure it is their best interest to do so.

Hardball is enforcing a contract SDSU agreed to?

There are only two things I can't stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.
