I graduated the year prior from LBSU but I was still there for all the build up. My 1st year Long Beach was probably a bottom 10 team in the nation (it was the year a Fresno State role player who transferred to LBSU was the "star" and everyone else was terrible), the Big-4 were recruited (Eugene Phillips, Larry Anderson, Casper Ware, TJ Robinson) and were all four year starters. Year one of the big 4 showed a ton of promise, year two they made the BWT finals losing to a better Santa Barbara team, and year 3 and 4 they were the best team in the BW but got upset as JRs to Santa Barbara in the BWT finals and finally won against Santa Barbara in the BWT finals as SRs. Dan Monson has been the coach for 16 years (coincidentally he started coaching when I was a Freshman) and the 2011 and 2012 teams were the only two teams that had any prayer of winning an NCAAT game. Sure Long Beach has won two regular season BW crowns since then and made two BWT finals. So they have at least come close to making the NCAAT since 2012 BUT any of those teams would have gotten a 15 seed and gotten blown out in the 1st round. It is also interesting to note that in todays environment the run would have never happen. Casper Ware would have transferred to a MW type school (he the "best" player on the team but undersized so no Big-5 school would call), and TJ Robinson would have transferred to a Big-5 school (2nd best player but more of a plug and play player that could play anywhere). 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

A team that quit. A football team that is a farm team to places with superior lifestyles. It will be ok, maybe with some of our money you can right the ship.
