Shulga and Russia sound nothing alike at all. I’m curious how many people that listened would hear shulga and not Russia. I suspect very few if any 

 

EDIT: when I listen again and I’m listening for Shulga- I do hear it. 

There are only two things I can't stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

I was sitting very close to the student section and I was under the impression that they were saying Shulga. It’s pretty common for the students to chant the last name of a player during free throws in tight games. 
 

I also don’t think many (if any) students would know about his Ukrainian background. We’re out of contention this year and I doubt folks are spending extra time reading our opponent’s bios. 
 

If I am wrong about this, then my apologies go out to Max and the USU community.

I recall a very similar situation at a BYU VB game recently that turned out to be nothing.  Universities are quick to apologize, slow to get to the bottom of things.

I was at the game and only heard "Shulga".  I've since listened to recordings and have only heard "Shulga".  I even tried to hear "Russia".

If this happened then all these apologies are certainly in order, but as of now I can't be convinced they were chanting anything but "Shulga".  Maybe one or two a-holes were yelling "russia" and I'm not hearing it, who knows.  I hope they get to the bottom of it.

In Converts world, there dozens of people chuckling and laughing hysterically at his N word jokes. Problem is, all those people are living in his head and only he can hear their voices.
