What I would like to see is the NSA, and our private corporations, be allowed to counter attack, and hard, after they detect likely CCP or Russian or whoever aggression. Right now American policy is to ONLY play defense. Biden had the chance to change that and sounded like he came very close to it after Russia invaded Ukraine. IMHO we should have turned their entire nation dark for a few days. How do you define counter attack? Steal Chinese IP? We need to follow international law regardless. We can fry them. No reason we should not be allowed to do so. Take a look at the list of Pentagon options presented to Biden at the beginning of the war. We can remotely destroy any servers needed. We can turn off the grid. We can stop trains. We can shut down their internet. And we could do this all at a minutes notice. If we wanted.

halfmanhalfbronco
Confirmed now that the Biden administration is the first to have ever been made aware of China violating our air space, and the three prior times were for a very brief duration, so brief as to have not been detected. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/chinese-spy-balloons-over-us-during-trump-admin-discovered-after-he-left-office-senior-biden-official

Alphabet detects Chineese corporate espionage and attempted IP theft, the best and brightest in their company should be allowed to fry the servers of the offender. We could do that all day over and over. Completely turning of an entire nations grid? Yeah, that's your one kill shot.

I think the answer is "politics." I also think that the Biden administration did a terrific job in pre-butting Putin's various lies about his pretext to invade Ukraine publicly in the press. They also did a great job of warning the Ukrainians of the Russian troop movements. They are really good, it seems, at using public relations and the media against these dictators. I believe Biden got a golden opportunity to kick Xi in the nuts and took it. He was able to embarrass the Chicoms by pointing out their stupid slow balloon as it floated fecklessly across the USA. What a photo op. All they could do was protest until it got shot down. It was a great spectacle to show how much better our military is at detecting these kinds of threats. Xi failed with covid 19 while the west is prospering. They also embarrassed themselves with their silly balloon. It doesn't appear that authoritarians are all that smart after all! Pretty much exactly what I said earlier. This has been a major PR disaster for China and gives us a good reason to make a statement without being the aggressor. There is no good reason to ever not disclose a hostile foreign nation violating your airspace. It makes them the bad guys and gives you leverage. You can attempt to drown out a transmitter by getting on the same frequency, but you can't drown a transmitters while also simultaneously monitoring their transmission. That's not how radio frequencies work. It's like trying to interrogate someone while you're strangling them. If they actually had the technology to do so, why reveal it to the masses? Should national security measures be classified? They let it float across the entire U.S before doing something about it? They jump from pointing fingers back to Trump, to saying they had it soooo neutralized the entire time by jamming they... had to shoot a missile at it anyway? Then comb a 7-mile debris field to attempt to retrieve the technology? Their rational is full of holes and so dumb and you're dumb for buying it.
