t's Time for the Scientific Community to Admit We Were Wrong About COVID and It Cost Lives

Recommended Posts

A med student blames public health officials for large parts of the population being irrational idiots.

I do agree as to his point about minority communities not being addressed properly at all. That is something that needs a deep dive.

Yes there is much to be learned in the future from the pandemic response, policies and communication. But I think blame for the deaths is incorrectly attributed to public health officials, when people had all the information available to them vis a vis the impacts of the virus, and the efficacy of the vaccines. I know you don't believe any of that Bob, but it does not make it less true.

People chose to ignore information and off themselves. That isn't the fault of public health officials or scientists. It was a personal decision, and one that many regretted with their dying breaths.

I am fine with his premise that we should discuss what went wrong, but we should do so without attributing blame, which he seems too eager to do.

Well, alright then....

He has plenty of links in the article from scientific journals. Why don't you address those?

Because it's much easier to dismiss a person based on who they are rather than what they say?

Honestly your reaction is a prime example of what the author is talking about.

Some of his points hold validity, media and politicians framing scientific messaging, who rarely retract statements or 180 their ideas, led to mistrust across the board.  Mix that in with corporate greed that magically everyone keeps forgetting about their motivations and their influence on politicians, and the blunder is pretty outright.  Then compound that with every conspiracy theory under the sun being thrown at the medical/science crowd and the limited capacity to address each and every tinfoil or loose thread (they were a little busy), and the conspiracy theorists moving their goalposts and finding any little shred of evidence to insinuate a larger point that isn't there (kind of like the OP), and I have no hope for when a real deadly pandemic hits.  There will be a lot of dead because they lazily "resisted", and will work to at least lower home values.  So, there is that.

Not really.  It's called 'consider the source'.  And many of those links are the same ones cited ad nauseum but the likes of people like...Bob.  Or, in more than one case, dont say what he's claiming they say.  Like a link to his own Twitter feed.

And, in looking at Mr (not Dr) Bass' Twitter feed, he's been on this train for quite a while.  Disingenuousness is not a selling point.

We've been round and round on this for 3 years now.  Plowing the same ground isnt accomplishing anything, and its not proving anything.

The base problem is too many people create a self-belief then work backwards looking for validation.

And if you look at the early days of the pandemic thread, you'll notice some guy sounding an awful lot like me spouting off that it was no big deal.  My views changed as the information changed.  Some aren't capable of that.

I look forward to being proven right about all the stuff I've ranted about the past couple years. I'll patiently wait and post stuff now and then that vindicate my positions.

Exhibit A...

I have no doubt you'll find that vindication...whether it's actually there or not.  It's just who you are.

Why bother with actual truth when you can exist in your own "truth?"

Mankind would benefit from a real, deep, factual analysis of the pandemic response. No doubt many mistakes were made along the way that, if corrected, could improve mortality when the next one hits.

But people like Bob (and many on the left too) don't really want that kind of analysis. They only want their beliefs confirmed. They don't want truth.

Which is why my apathy is nearing non-existent to those crowds.  I won't celebrate their pain, I just don't have the energy to give a shit about the consequences for their gullibility.

They couldn't find an actual doctor, so they just found a random medical student that could rant about baseless claims. And, of course, Bob rushes to share it as some sort of vindication.

Were mistakes made early in the pandemic? Of course. That's what happens when you're facing something new. But things would have been a hell of a lot better if COVID hadn't been instantly politicized by the freedumb bunch that continues to today.

So, the past four years have been a deep fake designed to eliminate our unnecessary population of the elderly and less healthy ?

Boy, did they ever spoil the apple cart by doing everything they were advised to do and stayed alive.

Then the vaxx manufacturers grossly overcharged We the People in order to rake in massive Tax Dollars for their Primary Investors, the true Deep State.

Even with all that knowledge of the evil they committed, and they did, their vaxxine was life saving medicine.

People who had been suffering fron long timers syndrome got better when they received the jab. The jab prevented tens of millions of hospitalizations that had brought our Medical System to its knees. The dreaded vaxx saved millions of lives and your team of dumb phuckery died at a rate of two to one post vaxx. Simply because ya'll believed the the vax was had 5G chips in it.

Btw, my internet and phone service have never been better.

There is data to suggest that Dems won tight Districts because there were less of you nimrods to vote.

Yes, people do have negative reactions and occasionally death from the vaxx. However, they are infinitesimal compared to the lives saved.

I'm just glad the CV didn't rip through your Community leaving a trail of death and misery. Because it sure did in many other under served Communities.

But, then your Team does not care because those Communities are non-white for the most part

I remember in a thread about schools somebody posted an article about the effects of school closures. It was one of those sleight of hand articles that presented some data to give the appearance of legitimacy, but the data didn’t actually support the thesis of the article. Of course it was written as if the authors were just “objectively looking at the data”.

I did some detective work, and by that I mean I typed the names of both co-authors in to Google. Both of them worked together on a COVID-skeptical article in March 2020, where they scoffed at the thought of 1-2 million people dying and predicted the death toll could end up as low as in the 5 figures. These types made up their minds about COVID 3 years ago and have never given a shit what the data says.

I dunno man.  I respect you and you make me think but I think there is a lot of finger pointing to go around that is well deserved.  The right wing anti vaxers caused so much grief for me and my family due to Idaho being in an almost constant state of crises standards of care for like 8 months.  I have not forgiven them yet.  And I will point my finger.  The left absolutely did nothing to help those "trust the science" with the lab leak is a conspiracy BS narrative (when everyone with two brain cells to run together now knows the lab leak is by far the most likely theory, or hypothesis if you want to get technical about lingo) and still not admitting the school closures lasting so long was complete and utter BS that caused way more damage than any incredibly marginal positive limit to spread.

Long story short.  You are all stupid hypocrites and I'm smart and well reasoned.  :)

I had 4 kids in school during the pandemic, there simply weren’t enough teachers available to open schools any earlier than they did. And when they did, they were extremely understaffed still. There were times where kids would just be sent to the gym because they’d be short 3 teachers.

FWIW the medical school probably wouldn’t let him use their name for the article. So kudos to Texas Tech for that. He’s getting a PhD/MD there.

Dude went to UT for undergrad. Probably had a run-in with Harsin or something.
