The actual MWC Softball standings in conference (and overall) play going into today's last MWC games of the Easter weekend - contrary to what is listed on the MWC softball standings website - https://themw.com/standings.aspx?path=softball

1. Boise State - 6-1 in MWC - 19-11 overall

2. San Diego State - 7-4 in MWC - 23-11 overall

3. Nevada - 5-4 in MWC - 24-9 overall

4. Colorado State - 5-5 in MWC - 19-12 overall

5. Utah State - 4-4 in MWC - 12-16 overall

6. Fresno State - 4-4 in MWC - 15-21 overall

8. San Jose State - 4-7 in MWC - 16-21 overall

9. New Mexico - 3-8 in MWC - 16-23 overall

P. S.  IF the 2023 MWC softball tournament were held based on these current standings U.N.L.V., San Jose State and New Mexico would not be participating in the MWC championship tournament.  Only the top six schools will be participating in the 2023 MWC softball championship tournament.

On March 11th of this year Boise State's Kelsey Hall was batting only .105.  She had only 2 hits in 19 at bats at that time.  Since that time she has had 17 hits in 25 at bats (that's a .680 BA) and her overall batting average now stands at .458 as of yesterday's game vs. New Mexico.   In her last 11 games she has had a batting average of .690 (20 hits in 29 at bats)

Currently Kelsey Hall, who is a RS Junior this year (despite being incorrectly listed as a Senior on the Boise State roster), is leading the Mountain West Conference softball statistics in all of the following categories:

Batting Average - .458 - Second in the MWC BA stats is her Boise State teammate Autumn Bennett at .440 & they are the only two players in the MWC with batting averages over .400.

O.P.S. (On Base + Slugging %) - 1.669 - Second in the MWC in O.P.S. is another of her Boise State teammates, i.e., Serena Huchingson, at 1.270

Slugging % - 1.104 -  Second in the MWC in Slg. % is U.N.L.V.'s Ariana Martinez at .755

On Base % - .565 - Hall is tied with Boise State teammate Serena Huchingson for the lead in this category actually.  And fellow Boise State teammate Autumn Bennett is current 3rd in the MWC in OB % at .506

In the three game series this past week vs. New Mexico Kelsey Hall had 7 at bats in the first two games.  In those 7 at bats she had 6 hits, scored 5 runs, had 13 RBI, with 4 home runs and 1 double.

In the 3rd game of the series New Mexico apparently gave up and simply walked her all four times she came up to bat - which resulted in her scoring 3 more runs and getting a stolen base.

Boise State's softball team as of yesterday's double-header vs. Nevada have hit 62 home runs this season.  The next closest MWC team in home runs is U.N.L.V. with 36 home runs - and U.N.L.V. has played six more games than Boise State this season.

Last season, during the 2022 season, Boise State set a new team record of 74 home runs in 50 games.  That was an average of 1.48 home runs per game.   This season Boise State has hit 62 home runs - so far - in 33 games.   That's an average of 1.88 home runs per game.   And Boise State has13 more games remaining on their regular season schedule (not including games in the MWC championship or NCAA tournament).  So they would have to hit only 1 home run per game in the regular season to break the team home run record of 74.

Boise wins MW Title. Barely missed out on last year's title. Coach in his 2nd season... so how long can they keep him in Boise? Attendance was reaching quadruple digits by the end of the season. Does he want to try and build something? He should be on a lot of radars now.

With only 4 games left today in the Mountain West Conference regular season the updated standings for MWC softball are as follows:

  1. Boise State - 16-4 in MWC (.800) - 31-14 overall (.689)
  2. San Diego State - 16-6 in MWC (.727) - 32-15 overall (.681)
  3. Colorado State - 12-9 in MWC (.571) - 28-18 overall (.609)
  4. San Jose State - 11-10 in MWC (.524) - 23-25 overall (.479)
  5. Fresno State - 9-13 in MWC (.409) - 22-31 overall (.415)
  6. Nevada - 9-13 in MWC (.409) - 29-18 overall (.617)
  7. Utah State - 8-13 in MWC (.381) - 17-26 overall (.395)
  8. U.N.L.V. - 8-13 in MWC (.381) - 22-27 overall (.449)
  9. New Mexico - 6-15 in MWC (.286) - 19-30 (.388)

Fresno State is listed here in 5th place over 6th place Nevada because Fresno State swept Nevada (3-0) this season.

Utah State is similarly listed here ahead of U.N.L.V. because Utah State beat U.N.L.V. two out of the three games that they played this season.

IF Utah State and Nevada finish the regular season tied Nevada wins the tie breaker because they beat Utah State in 2 of the 3 games they played this season.

The final games of the Mountain West Conference softball regular season will be played today as follows:

Colorado State @ Nevada - 11:30 a.m. MT (10:30 a.m. P.T.)

Boise State @ Fresno State - 12 noon MT  (11 a.m. P.T.)

Utah State @ San Jose State - 1 p.m. MT (Noon P.T.)

New Mexico @ U.N.L.V. - 2 p.m. MT (1 p.m. P.T.)

IF Colorado State loses today @ Nevada and IF San Jose State beats Utah State (again) today then San Jose State will move into the 3rd seed for the MWC championship as San Jose State owns the tiebreaker over Colorado State by beating CSU two out of the three games they played this season.
