After looking at other California softball schedules for 2023 it appears that San Jose State will begin their 2023 softball season at the Mark Campbell Invitational tournament with a double header on Feb. 10th against Duke and Washington.

Only 25 days now till Boise State's first softball game for the 2023 season.   Time to project what MAY be the 2023 Boise State softball team's lineup based on what I saw during the three fall softball games I watched last fall.  Returning starters listed in Bold print:

CATCHER - # 21 - Serena Huchingson - 2023 RS Senior - 5' 9" - Started 30 games last season at C and 5 games last season as the DP.  Batted .283 in 106 AB's in 2022.

FIRST BASE - Undetermined - The 2023 starter could be any one of three or four different players.  During fall ball the two who played at 1B the most were # 18 - Ashlyn Whalen - 2023 True Junior - 5' 8" and #32 - Zoe Karam - 2023 True Freshman - 6' 0".  However # 1 - Kylie Baumert - 2023 RS Senior - 5' 6" (transfer from the College of Southern Idaho & U.S.C.) is listed on the 2023 Boise State roster as a "1B/OF" player.  She batted .478 in 207 AB's in 2022 at the College of Southern Idaho as their starting center fielder.

SECOND BASE - Last year's starter, Jalen Ervin, is out for the year with an injury.  During fall ball the two players who played the most at 2B for Boise State were # 35  Bobbiann Pratt - 2023 True Junior - 5' 5" and # 5 - Autumn Bennett - 2023 4th year Senior - 5' 6".  Pratt batted .250 in 2022 in 40 AB's and Bennett batted .268 in 2022 in 82 AB's

SHORTSTOP - # 4 - Eliyah Flores - 2023 Graduate Student - 5' 2" - Started 27 games in 2022 at SS for Boise State.  Batted .323 in 2022 in 130 AB's

THIRD BASE - # 5 - Autumn Bennett - 2023 4th year Senior - 5' 6" OR # 3 - Sydney Groves - 2023 True Freshman - 5' 11"

RIGHT FIELD - # 27 - Alycia Flores - 2023 RS Junior - 5' 5" - Batted .375 in 2022 in 136 BA's.

CENTER FIELD - Undetermined - The 2023 starter, Kelsey Lalor, was a 6th year Senior in 2022 and has graduated.   # 33 - Kelsey Hall - 2023 RS Junior - 5' 7"  played quite a bit in CF during the fall games I watched.  # 6 - Megan Lake - 2023 True Sophomore - 5' 5" also saw a lot of playing time in CF for Boise State during the fall games I watched.  # 13 - Mykenzie Hanna - 2023 True Sophomore - 5' 7" also saw playing time in CF last fall

LEFT FIELD - # 28 - Jordyn Hutchins - 2023 True Junior - 5' 2" - Batted .300 in 90 AB's in 2022.

DESIGNATED PLAYER - Undetermined - Could be any number of players.  The players I saw playing as the DP during the three fall games I watched were # 25 - Lindsey Walljasper - 2023 5th year Senior (Transfer from U.N.C. Charlotte) - 6' 0" and # 18 - Ashlyn Whalen - 2023 True Junior - 5' 8"  and # 21 - Serena Huchingson - 2023 RS Senior - 5' 9" and # 2 Becky Wetteland - True Freshman - 5' 7" and # 6 - Megan Lake - 2023 True Soph. - 5' 5"

PITCHERS

# 1 Pitcher is LIKELY to be # 24 - Taylor Caudill - 2023 True Junior - 5' 8" - 3.02 E.R.A. in 2022 in 109.0 IP.  She started 23 games and made 27 appearances in 2022.  She had a 15-5 Win-Loss record with 142 K's and a 1.26 WHIP

# 2 Pitcher MAY be # 25 - Lindsey Walljasper - 2023 5th year Senior (Transfer from U.N.C. Charlotte) - 6' 0" - 3.23 E.R.A. in 2022 at UNC Charlotte.  She pitched 152.2 innings in 2022 with a 16-9 Win-Loss record with 118 K's and a 1.32 WHIP

# 3 Pitcher - Undetermined - There are five other pitchers on the 2023 Boise State softball team roster.

Nevada was abysmal last year.  Former Fresno coach Linda Garza has made significant changes.  4 of the H.S. recruits batted over .500+ last year.  Of course it takes awhile to catch up to D-1 pitching but bodes well for the future.  The 7 transfers will provide a totally new infield.  Notables are a BYU pitcher that had a .282 ERA & a girl from N.J. that went 38-40 in steals that will complement Cheli Sinini who broke the MW steals record last year.  She also has a commitment for next year from the 33rd rated pitcher in the country.  Remains to be seen how these changes will turn out but at least we should leave the basement behind.

Update.  Nevada's season opener is February 10th against North Dakota in the Central Coast Classic.  Nevada will also play Cal Poly and UCSB twice each while in SLO.

That's quite a bit different than what I had projected for their lineup for 2023.  It will be interesting to see which projected lineup is more accurate.  Since you are a Nevada fan I'm thinking yours will likely be the one that's more accurate.   Thanks for putting forth the effort on this.

P.S. I counted 16 players on the 2022 Nevada softball roster who are not on the 2023 roster.

I was just strictly going by the numbers.  With so many new players it's a tossup.  I have zero info on the winter games, who did well & who didn't.  Sometimes players, especially Fr., have the bad habit of taking good pitches, getting behind in the count & then swinging at a bad pitch.  Maybe the light comes on the next year so who knows.
