Adults are finally at the table in UNLV Football. They opened up their wallets, put a great staff together, mending bridges with the local highschools and recruiting is gelling already at a high level.

The financial investment in staff and facilities in football versus basketball speaks for itself. Putting butts in the seats of Allegiant is what's going to lift this athletic program up the fastest.

The concept of a dual-threat quarterback is no stranger to UNLV as the home of the rebels is home to one of the greatest dual-threat QB of all time. From 1981-1984, Randall Cunningham was the Rebels’ main man and he parlayed his impressive college career into three All-Pro selections and four Pro Bowls. His number is retired by the university. UNLV’s last bowl win (2000 Las Vegas Bowl) came on the shoulders, arms, and legs of Jason Thomas. Originally a USC commit, John Robinson brought him to Vegas where they achieved the greatest amount of success the Rebels have had this millennium. Now the lights shine bright and Allegiant Stadium is set to witness the next physical form of greatness. A lengthy, 6’5, left-handed duel-threat quarterback has the Mountain West on alert as Barry Odom looks to give UNLV its first winning season in about a decade. Let’s look at the talented and promising Doug Brumfield.

UNLV Football Signing Day TV Special Set For Feb. 1

UNLV Athletics and KVVU FOX5 are teaming up February 1 to produce a live, 90-minute-long program featuring new football head coach Barry Odom as he and his coaching staff unveil the Class of 2023 as part of National Signing Day.

Fans can learn all about the newest group of Rebel football players from 11 a.m. to 12:30 pm on the Silver State Sports & Entertainment Network (SSSEN) by tuning into broadcast channel 5.2 and Cox channel 125 on cable. The show will also be available online via the UNLV Football YouTube channel.

"FOX5 and Silver State Sports and Entertainment Network are excited to carry the UNLV Signing Day Show, showcasing a new era of UNLV football," said KVVU-TV vice president and general manager Michael Korr. "Being able to create local content like the RebZone coach's show and the national signing day special, shows that our partnership with UNLV is a great combination for Southern Nevada viewers."

Coming to you live from the KVVU studios in Henderson, UNLV's Signing Day Show will be co-hosted by FOX5 Sports Director Kevin Bolinger, RebZone host Paloma Villicana and local radio personality and UNLV sideline analyst Steve Cofield.

"We want to thank Michael Korr from FOX5 and Dan Dolby from Learfield for partnering on this special production in order to tell the story of UNLV's newest group of student-athletes who chose to become Rebels," said Odom. "It will be a great way for fans to get to know our new coaching staff while also learning about the future of this program."

Just having an adequate offensive line so he isn’t running for his life or getting unnecessarily pummeled would be a good thing. A healthy Brumfield would be great. An extra 2 seconds after the snap to look downfield would be outstanding.

UNLV also a had a Prospect Day this past Saturday at the FFC.  About 75 prospects both local and out-of-state were invited to the FFC to meet with the staff, shown the facilities, and taken to Allegiant.  This staff just gets it.  I'm very impressed with what they have done in such a short time.  The offers and commits show a commitment to attack recruiting like a SEC school.  They are shooting for high end kids.  All the coaches talked about winning a championship now.   They do not call this a rebuild.  Everything out of their mouth was about winning a championship next year.   Also, from what I could gather, they have great confidence that a move to the PAC-12 is only a matter of time.
