  1. Coeur d’Alene isn’t “local” for me. I can drive to Salt Lake faster than I can to the panhandle. Lol But yeah, that guy, Heather Scott, and the Idaho Freedom Foundation are all far right nut jobs. The chair of the Idaho Republican Party is Dorothy Moon and she’s also cut from this cloth, a true extremist radical who is pro-conspiracy and anti-vaccine … not just against Covid vaccines but all vaccines. She buys into the conspiracy that vaccines cause autism. I’m pretty sure she’s related to @Bob.
  2. One more point I’d like to make. The morons on the far right are so bent out of shape about things like transgender athletes yet they say events like what transpired in CDA are not a big deal. What do you all think happens more in our society today - a trans-athlete running track or an event like what happened in CDA? I’d venture to guess one is FAR more prevalent than the other. And one of these involves a victim and a perp while the other doesn’t.
  3. I’m not sure if this link will work but I wanted to share it because the post and comments demonstrates some of the dynamics that @halfmanhalfbronco, @bornontheblue, and I were trying to articulate: https://www.facebook.com/share/GZt8CePb3M6x2eAS/?mibextid=WC7FNe
  4. Yeah, it’s an ugly history and anyone who tries to deny it is either ignorant or has an agenda. This is one of the main reasons why I am so disgusted at those on the right who try to downplay the problem. As I mentioned in my earlier post, Stewart is a brave person for doing what he did, particularly after his predecessor was almost killed.
  5. Lo and behold— my old prof made the news: https://cdapress.com/news/2024/mar/27/stewart-racism-still-a-problem/
  6. Generally yes, I agree with it. And it makes me very sad.
  7. It will have an impact. The mayor, city council, and business community have a lot to lose from this shit but the ones who will ultimately feel it the most are the service-level employees who could lose their jobs. Sad consequences of ignorance and hate but maybe it will help act as a forcing function for people to turn out in mass to push back against the nut jobs.
  8. No. @utenation is a big personality but he’s usually open to talking issues through with people he doesn’t see eye to eye with. That is evident in this very thread, all you need to do is read through the back and fourth objectively to see it.
  9. You forgot to mention the hookers I was pimping.
  10. The Nez Perce are not a Nation anyone should ever try to fu*k with.
  11. I saw it that he did acknowledge there’s a problem up there. Which there certainly is a problem in North Idaho and anyone who denies it either doesn’t live in reality or has an agenda.
  12. To be fair to @soupslam1, that wasn’t what he was saying. There are very good people up there in spite of the problem. One of my favorite college professors, Tony Stewart, taught political science at NIC, he was a high up in the ACLU and faced those idiots down in public without fear. Tony was able to reconcile the good with the bad up there and he loved Coeur d’Alene. What needs to happen is more decent people in the area need to be more like Tony by making life far more miserable for the nut jobs in open society so they crawl back under their rocks in the far back woods.
  13. While the problem is more pronounced in the Idaho panhandle, it’s become an issue nationally. The Republican Party needs to stomp out and sever all ties with that garbage.
  14. @Did I hear a WOOSH? is highly influenced by what he absorbs on East Coast SportsCenter.
  15. Ignoring or tolerating bigotry isn’t great. But openly displaying it with pride is worse in my opinion.
  16. It ranks the MWC is the 7th best conference you moron.
  17. If there’s video evidence combined with witnesses, the authorities will find out who did this. At minimum, there are grounds for assault charges. As there was a repeated event that likely included the same individual and/or members of an organization, this could also rise to the level of a hate crime. In any case, I hope they find the asshole(s) who did this and arrest them. One more uncomfortable dynamic about the panhandle, it’s also become a mecca for MAGA and white Christian nationalist doomsday cults. As a result, the Republican Party in that region of the state has become full on extremist. In the past, the Republican Party used to distance themselves from these fringe ideologies and groups — now they full on embrace and even elevate them to elected positions and leadership roles. For me personally, this is very sad because I’m a former Republican who grew up under the influence of the Reagan administration. I became more liberal with regard to social issues over time, which is why I gravitated toward libertarian ideology. Today’s Republican Party has become, in the pure definition of the word, fascist in that it elevates the persona of their leader to not only change the values and ideals of their party but to also overturn long-held national laws and institutions by any means necessary. AND, they’re more than enthusiastic about overlooking or ignoring the gross hypocrisy of their false-idol leader to do it.
  18. They were emboldened ass holes who have creeped out of the shadows due to the political environment that’s existed since 2016. Yeah, it’s a problem everywhere … but it’s more pronounced in the Idaho panhandle.
  19. I lived and went to my first year of college up in Coeur d’Alene, it’s an exceptionally beautiful area. It’s changed a lot since I was there in the mid 90s and I’d feel confident in saying that more than half the population in the panhandle has moved in from out of state. The panhandle region has always been an attractive place for recluses and radical extremists due to its close proximity to the border, remoteness, low population density, and non-diverse homogeneity. North of Lewiston, there are basically 5 towns: Coeur d’Alene, Kellogg, Moscow, Post Falls, and Sandpoint. Everything else is just a village. Those 5 towns are all along just two roads, I-90 and US 95. Everything else is basically mountains and forest. There’s also very little industry in that part of the state. Other than Litehouse dressings, Coldwater Creek, and Buck Knives, there’s really only forestry work and service jobs. While a student, I worked at Senator Dirk Kempthorne’s office as an intern and had to deal with some weird ass nut jobs who would come in and rant endlessly about their grievances with the government. I was trained to keep my hand on the panic button under the reception desk when they came in. That button would alert the CDA police department, state police, and the FBI simultaneously. With all that said, it’s not like everyone up there wears SS gear and goose steps around the lake.
  20. @halfmanhalfbronco and @utenation— brothers, please don’t fight. You know I appreciate you both.
  21. +1 There’s only one clear choice. It’s time for Coach to have a triumphant return to Ogden.
  22. Do you really leave reviews at every location you visit? Cool pic btw.
  23. @madmartigan and @RSF, please discuss.
