  1. I believe Iowa was ranked #13 in 2016 when NDSU beat them. I think they finished the season #21. Interestingly, NDSU received 70+ points in the AP top 25 poll after beating Iowa. That put them ranked at 27th in the country among FBS.
  2. I assumed they landed in Cheyenne and bussed to Laramie. Sorry.
  3. Well, I'd love that too. But I guess you do have Texas State as an option if Texas is a place you guys really want to get into. They aren't far from Austin if markets matter (they shouldn't matter as much, IMHO). UTEP, on the other hand, probably doesn't make much sense. Doesn't really carry Texas.
  4. No insult taken. But no...we don't wan't to be FCS's Alabama anymore. We need to find an FBS home. It'll work out fine once we land somewhere. I mean, you guys make Hawaii work. It is also a heck of a lot easier to get to Fargo than Laramie, unless you're busing from CSU or something.
  5. The AAC's move is not good for the AAC (so it is inexplicable) and it is also not good for NDSU. I agree...the MWC (where I wish we'd land) has little incentive to add right now. NDSU needs to go to CUSA with hat in hand and making the case that we can help strengthen the conference in both football and basketball. We'd be an instant rival with JMU if they are brought into the fold as well. I think there's a case to be made. I hope we are doing so (but I doubt it).
  6. There are plenty on this board that promoted adding UTSA, UNT, and/or Rice. Markets were usually the chief reason cited. The folly of chasing TV markets isn't the exclusive province of Aresco.
  7. Geography does matter some. I think North Dakota is the beginning of the west in the north, so I think it wouldn't be a stretch to include NDSU in the MWC footprint. HOWEVER, I have to say, if the AFA and CSU leave, as does BSU, then the conference is essentially a west coast conference at that point. I'd have to agree that NDSU would probably be misplaced in such a conference. If those things are a foregone certainty, we should be looking at the MAC, a resurrected FBS WAC, or going independent in football. That last option is one I've tended to be very receptive to for NDSU. We could prove ourselves in FBS while continuing to go to the NCAA dance from the Summit League every other year or so.
  8. Fargo is pretty flat. But we represent a state containing the Badlands, which is decidedly western. Besides, I keep hearing UNT and Tulsa thrown around. They're flat too.
  9. I would agree. I think a dream (...pipe dream to be sure) FBS scenario would be for the MWC to bring in Montana, MSU, NDSU, and SDSU (the one in South Dakota). I get it that the west coast members wouldn't care for that so much. But I said it was a dream scenario after all.
  10. I haven't seen all those posting for NDSU wanting a FB-only membership. I think most NDSU fans would prefer full membership. Certainly on our own boards that's the sentiment. I think football-only is something we'd clearly settle for if you were to go after Gonzaga or Wichita State and needed an off-setting FB program. But I for one would prefer a full membership. I think NDSU would find the money to do it. The fundraising attached to the excitement of going FBS would be off the charts. In my 7 years there, I've been blown away at the ease with which athletics raises money. The new $40 million practice facility being built right now is entirely privately funded. And it didn't take very long to find that cash.
