  1. Excellent point that they seem to be acting like they can check out all the options they want because the MWC will always be there as a fall back position, no matter what. Of course, they're probably right. Like you said though, things can change fast and who knows how the 12 presidents will feel about things in two years or so. They can't afford to directly raid the MWC till '27 and they're going to need to do something long before then.
  2. That's a great article. Baker, who is tasked with the defense of amateur collegiate sports, is in fact working from the inside to kill that very model. Therein lies the major flaw with the NCAA. They are the governing body of a system designed to manage a system for amateur student athletes. You know, the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Baker is nothing more than a union boss catering to certain preferred constituents while holding the rest of the membership hostage for their contribution to the organization. I think it's telling that the P5 are meeting with members of congress. Yeah, five commissioners. How come all the G5, FCS, etc. aren't there? Well, their opinion is irrelevant. You can be OK with that, or be pissed about it. It doesn't matter. You do have to accept that the status quo is now official.
  3. Nah, they've got a lot to lose. I don't know if the MWC wants to play hardball, but in fact they hold all the cards and not the NW twins. The MWC is not in a bad place right now for a G5. All they have to do is say NO, and the twins are in a pickle and the MWC is business as usual. Should they hold out and see what transpires? Any reasonable person would. Sure. But they're not in the drivers seat here. Let's not pretend that OSU/WSU run college football all of a sudden just because all of their conference mates abandoned them and no other P5 conference wanted them.
  4. Ooops, typo. My bad. I meant that I walked 15 feet to the fridge for a fresh beer. Sometimes I get fat fingers.
  5. Yeah, well, I went on a 15 mile run. So there!
  6. Because NMSU has a pretty tough OOC schedule, and they're going to need a break.
  7. As I recall, Kliavkoff was supposed to be the savior that righted the ship after Scott screwed it up. I'm not sure that Kliavkoff knew what he was getting into. I think some of the presidents really liked the way Scott handled things, regardless of the results.
  8. You were pretty average until you were able to play Boone #2. I watched a little UNLV ball prior to that, and a little since. I'm not sure what exactly he brought to the party, but the team sure changed overnight. You're .500 because the current iteration of the Rebels hasn't played near as many games as the original version. Hang tight, I've been saying that UNLV's fortunes were due for a change, and I think I'm going to be proven right.
  9. Hmmm, definitely a cool story. Who knows what version of the actual origin is, but I think it's neat that folks research it.
  10. Cool. Just saying that I very much doubt that holding up a hand with two missing fingers actually evolved from roping cattle. Nobody in Mexico does that, and they've probably been roping longer than anyone.
  11. Not a thing in Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada, Kansas, Texas, Nebraska, etc. places that they still work a lot of cattle on horseback. Folks do still lose fingers, but it’s not real common.
  12. I think it's a little nuts to think that AAU membership, research dollars, UNWR rankings, etc. really matter any more in conference expansion. This is run by TV now. They're only concerned about viewership. If by chance a conference can point to the academic side as being solid after all the financial decisions are made, then that's a bonus. B1G might get some exception to that as they are at the top of the pyramid and have a ton more clout with the networks than the rest of the P5/G5. Individual schools still think it's a factor, but in fact it's pretty much an afterthought.
  13. Double headers do seem to make a lot of sense, for all the reasons you mentioned. Play the ladies game early, have about an hour or two break for whatever the teams and arena need to do for the second game and go. Even easier when you're streaming and TV doesn't have any requirements.
  14. So pretty much middle of the pack, maybe upper end, but no big difference.
  15. I think Jenny does a pretty solid job calling it down the middle, considering that she is an alum and indeed a "homer". No way you can take that out of your call, but I've seen a lot worse from the lead announcers on the network. If you want a complete lack of bias, don't put an alum behind the mike.
  16. True. But don't tell them that. Perception can be reality, and I do get the sense that they feel they have vast academic (and athletic) superiority to the MWC. Sadly, a lot of MWC fans buy into that as well.
  17. Niko also thought that was the play of the game. Said so in his post-game presser. There were a few key plays late that brought The RAMS back into it and got us the W, but that one was huge.
  18. I agree. But then again, he does have Stevens.
  19. Yep. Stevens and Kruger determined the outcome of this one. Rebels had us. Stevens stepped up and played like Stevens. Kruger mismanaged a bunch. Mostly let his team get into hero ball when team ball had us whipped. It didn't suck for CSU that Cartier figured out his stroke...finally. Hell, I wouldn't have guarded him from the three either based on the rest of the game.
  20. 17 years before USU was founded. @TrueAg needs to look over his history.
  21. It was a hard shove in the back. But it's over. Good game Reb's, about what I expected. A really tough UNLV team.
