Boise State vs Colorado, Wednesday, TruTv 7:10 pm MDT
Headbutt replied to thelawlorfaithful's topic in MWC Sports Forum
Between the two play-in teams, I feel like Boise got the tougher draw. CU is pretty hot right now. As for game 2, I think Boise can run Florida. CSU didn't get an easy match-up with VA, but definitely an easier route than facing CU. Round two? Texas is way better than a wounded Florida IMO. Game 3 (round of 32), we'll both definitely have to earn the respect if we can get to that one. -
Well Boise fans, last four in is still in. BS job by the committee, now we just need to make them eat crow.
-
This is true. However, the contract they made with the MWC as far as poaching seems to indicate that the MWC will be going PAC instead of the other way around. I don't think that's the best move, but it's the impression I got from the wording that I saw.

Media negotiations should start this summer (if they already haven't), we'll see what their intentions actually are when that stuff starts to become public.

From caviar to canned tuna — poor OSU and Wazzu

American West...try to keep up. -
No. There's a contract that makes it prohibitively expensive for that to happen. Canzano isn't good at math.

We should definitely invite Cal at a 50% share, with a 10% escalator annually until they become a full member with equal payout. They'd laugh at the deal, but.....+++++ 'em.

OK, that's a big reach that I really like. Make it so #1.

Yep. No argument at all. I do think athletics are an important part of a university though. My biggest complaint isn't that we are mid-majors that make academics a mission for our student athletes. My biggest complaint is the greedy money grab that is ultimately going to rob some swimmers, X-country runners, and golfers a chance at a college education that has existed for many decades. Most of us will continue to play FB, BB, etc. but when entire track and field programs start getting cut it doesn't just become about a university. Without collegiate olympic participants getting proper training and development, we as a country do worse in the olympics. Bad example, but you get my point. -

Not if they can help it. As long as they keep the rest of us as a practice league, they just keep getting raises. We're like an abused woman who just can't walk away. Until we do, we just feed their agenda. -

Yes. And it's still absolute bullshit. -
Yeah, Nevada's still dancing but this might change the NET a little. Hard to beat a team 3 times in a season. Even harder in the MWC. Honestly, Nevada really missed McIntosh tonight. When the refs are wearing out their whistles, it's tough to play without a key bench guy. Blackshear needed the break. I don't know how many minutes he had, but 5 less with a competent scorer in his place would have made a big difference.

Refs win by 7. Glad they put their cash on the RAMS. 50 total fouls. 26 on CSU, 24 on UNR. Good game Pack.
-
Almost correct. OSU & WSU will not come to the MWC. The entirety of the MWC will go to the Pac brand. Same thing you're saying, just a different flag. OSU/WSU will likely see this as some sort of victory. It's not. They already lost. We're just stealing their brand.

The $$$$$ say no. But we'll see.

Danny Sprinkle to Washington rumors getting loud
Headbutt replied to sdsuphilip4's topic in MWC Sports Forum
A little surprising coming out of Logan, but would be a great standard to set for the rest of the league. I hope he stays, even though I'm a little skeptical that you can keep him. -
You are wise to be scared. You would also be wise to bet the farm on the UNLV ladies though.

Temple University involved in Gambling?
Headbutt replied to Gonzagafan2021's topic in MWC Sports Forum
This one is a little out there. A. It’s Vanderbilt, they’re unlikely to win anyway. B. He’s a benchwarmer. He’s not gonna be able to throw a game that he likely won’t be in except for kneel downs. -
Get help.

The T on Scott was legit, especially after they had just done the same to Medved for the same tantrum. Agree that the call on Becker was BS, but so were 90% of all the calls made in that game...both ways. Very poor officiating today. Good game Zoomies, tough as usual.

Fox to do prime time Friday night games this Fall
Headbutt replied to RSF's topic in MWC Sports Forum
Friday night college football became a thing while my son was playing HS Football. It pissed me off, then they moved some of the HS Football games to Saturdays and I had an even bigger conflict. Never missed a HS game of course, and after a while it just wasn't a big deal. Go to the HS game, go home and watch the recording of the college game (sometimes I could skip commercials and halftime fast enough to see the end of the college tilt live). It just wasn't the big pain in the ass that I was so outraged about initially. I think it's great the the MWC will have (probably 1 or 2) games on Friday primetime. I hope they pick the compelling matchups instead of just going by school names. Boise v Nevada isn't likely to pull in the respect for the conference that a more dramatic outcome will. -
This actually will become an important case, or if Dartmouth doesn't push back the case that follows this one will be an important case, whatever. As employees, some university is going to sit down and negotiate the benefits package, and what the employees have to contribute to it. You know, a coaching staff, a training staff, tutors, tuition costs, etc. None of that grows on trees. As @RSF put it, it's just Dartmouth. Different labor laws, entirely different galaxy financially (from an athletic standpoint) but the resulting court cases will have rulings involved that will be used as precedent when it does spread to large public universities and conference. I'd hate to guess how it will all shake out, but there will be off-season entertainment for the rest of us for a while.
