  1. I dont believe Cincy has played Louisville or Southern Miss in ANY games since Louisville left the conference they both were previously members of. I do not follow either team closely but do not remember seeing scores for any such games for the past several years. Good luck to Memphis in their efforts to get into the Big 12. You certainly deserve it in basketball and football and I am sure it will eventually happen to your schools teams. If not this year then within the next two years. It is inevitable in my opinion. I am still not sure that the Big 12 will stay a power conference but that appears much more likely now than it did two weeks ago.
  2. It does not sound as if they will be worrying about money in the future. And this was for 4 additional teams with Texas and the Okies leaving. If the B12 adds 2 more it will involve another increase quite probably. It must be nice to be rich. Even if you don't completely deserve it.
  3. Ross Dellenger @RossDellenger · Sep 3 UCF, UH, BYU & Cincy expected to apply for Big 12 membership next week & league presidents have the votes to admit them next Friday, sources tell me & @ByPatForde . Plan is to join in 2023, conceivably before OU & Texas leave, to create a 14-team league.
  4. A Sports Illustrated article stated that the 4 new members (Cincy, UCF, Houston, BYU} will receive "more than twice the amount of distributions they currently receive. No one knows how much BYU currently receives from ESPN however the three AAC teams receive 7 million per their contract. This would put the new amount at 14 to 15 million bucks. Not a bad step up however not as much as the SEC, Big, ACC and PAC receive. Actually not even close to what they receive. The new contract will not be done until 2025 with ESPN and Fox. Then everyone will receive the same share however no one knows what that will be. It also states the new schools will not compete in the B12 until 2023. SI is generally accurate but I especially liked the following sentence: The B12 will supposedly remain in the P5. The use of the word supposedly was of special interest to me.
  5. I truly would like to know which multiple top 25 teams exist in the CUSA and Sun Belt. It is also the case that in most years there are only two top 25 teams in the MWC, sometimes less.
  6. I like it with the exception of Boise. BYU and the east schools would do well. Boise as a football only would be OK.
  7. The last choice is best especially it it takes my two schools. Namely San Diego State and Cincinnati. However I think they will go east first and then west for SDSU and Boise or BYU. Frankly I believe the BIG may get screwed if it takes Kansas and Iowa State and it follows that oft discussed possibility. I think they should take Clemson and Florida St. if they can get them. I also think there is an outside chance that USC and Stanford OR UCLA may go to the BIG. Please note I said outside chance.
  8. I expect it will be BYU and Cincy but if they take 4 schools UCF and Memphis are very possible. As long as my two schools SDSU and Cincy get into the Pac and B12 I will be happy. Thamel is one of the few sports writers who is "generally" accurate. I trust him more than most still he has been wrong before, hopefully not now.
  9. USC, UCLA, CAL and Kansas to the Big and then SDSU goes to the PAC. The PAC will need to come up with others, perhaps BYU to fill out the vacancy. I got this info from our two greatest and most accurate posters: PH and Half and Half.
  10. Only BYU would have a good chance of getting in. Cincy and SDSU and Houston would have a VERY VERY outside chance. Really I don't see anyone except BYU getting in. If Okie and Texas depart the B12 TV money would go down by 50% or more.
  11. The Ken Burns documentary on country music was without question the best documentary I have ever seen on TV. Indeed it was the best program I have ever seen on TV. I should point out that with the exception of Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson I DO NOT LIKE any country music. On the Burns documentary however they all appeared good.
  12. Good, we agree on these things. Now someone should try to convince the schools, coaches and AD's.
  13. If the quality of a team in one of the absurd 6 and 6 bowls is not relevant why not invite 0 and 12 teams to play? Apparently the talent and skill level along with the ability to play team ball is not relevant to you or perhaps all teams should be permitted to go to a bowl or to the NIT.
  14. I also believe the number of bowl games is excessive. They no longer have any meaning or value if teams that can not even have a winning record against pathetic opposition are qualified to go to bowls. For example look for the Sun Belt and CUSA teams that have gone to some bowls. Is a 6 and 6 CUSA team really qualified for post season play?
  15. I am not saying anything against SDSU basketball. I took my BA at SDSU almost 40 years ago before going on to U of Cincy for my MA. I will always be a SDSU fan but I have seen nothing on TV or at the regional games of the NIT that I have attended over the past few decades which indicate much more than a weak pulse in the NIT. With few exceptions they are teams who are not in the dance because they do not deserve to be there.
  16. At one time the NIT meant something. My uncle actually was a walk on with a small Catholic university which won the NIT in the mid 1950's. However the NIT is now at most an afterthought with little reason to exist.
  17. There is much to much in the way of pathetic basketball in the NIT already. Reduce the teams to 24 or just do away with the NIT and eliminate the CBI and CIT as well. If you don't earn a NCAA bid there is really no reason for a post season
  18. As your comment is not worthy of a response I will simply ask you to read my response to the similar idiocy of MISPLACEDCOWBOY. Thank you
  19. For the misguided and confused supporters of the 3 point shot in college basketball allow me to ask the following. How many sports follow the example of the 3 point shot? 1. Football does not give 4 or 5 points for a extra long field goal of 55 yards rather than the 3 points one gets from a 10 yard field goal. A forward pass which scores a touchdown from 60 yards is valued the same as a touchdown pass from 5 yards. 2. Hockey does not give extra points for a goal shot from 50 feet over one from 5 feet. 3. Soccer does not give extra points for a goal from 50 feet rather than a goal from 15 feet. 4. Baseball does not make a home run in deep center field of say 410 feet worth more than a home run into right field of 350 feet. 5. Tennis does not score more for a deep baseline score rather than a close net score. 6. Even archery does not give more points to a shot on center target if it comes from 200 feet rather than 150 feet. 7. Bowling does not give a strike on a regulation alley a lower score than a strike beginning 50 feet beyond the regulation alley. Please name one major or minor sport which follow college basketball in giving extra points from scoring from a few feet farther away. Even track does not give a person who finishes first in the 100 meter race a lesser win than the foolish person who decides to run the same race but at 120 meters. Rather they disqualify the foolish runner who chose to run the extra distance. I suspect the difference between my point of view and yours is based on two things. First I attempt to be logical in my statements and second you may have never seen a basketball game without the aberration of the 3 point shot.
  20. Query: were these people offered equity partnerships? I find equity partnerships highly questionable however I see the reason for them.
  21. Before I retired I hired many candidates who had majors in finance (we were financial advisors) or economics. However in about a 20 year period I had the opportunity to hire three candidates from the Ivy league (two from Princeton and one from Dartmouth), I never had any problems with any of them and they often were in the top 10 % of our sales force. They were in fact the "go to guys" in our office. I am a graduate of SDSU and U. of Cincinnati and so I believe my education was at or above normal but in no way comparable to theirs. So yes in a sense I did look at lists and hire basically on university rankings (though not these specific rankings.) If you are seeking an employee in an entry level advisor job and you take a prospective employee from Boise or Fresno over Harvard or Yale you are either crazy or sadly mistaken. I must admit my education did not compare to the Ivy grads I mentioned above but I made it on sales skills. I did not even major in finance rather I was a European history major. I am not sure why I succeeded except I worked more hours than most others but that alone was not the reason. Perhaps I should not have held the position I did. Mayhaps their were no Ivy grads who were willing to work for my starting salary. In any case when I retired I was replaced by an Ivy grad, and I was sufficiently intelligent to recommend him. By the way I have had a series of serious health problems in the past 2 years which included a 28 day stay in a hospital and a botched operation. I will be moving to a care institution at the end of the month and I believe but an not certain that their is no opportunity for internet usage there and so will wish one and all a pleasant year whilst I can. I may simply obtain a smart phone and communicate on the net in that fashion. However I grew to hate the cell world when I was working and upon my retirement cancelled my phone. I have been very happy not to be bothered by inane calls since then and have never regretted my cancellation. In truth this is the only sports site which I have posted on and so with the exception of Mug and the many posters I have replied to on the MWCboard I will not miss the web. Good luck to all, live your life to the fullest so that when you are 70 as I am you can say you did not miss doing anything you genuinely wanted to do.
