Agreed.  It's why catching 80 brook trout in a day in some lake never got my gears going.  But catching one steelhead or a 18 inch Westslope cutthroat will make my day.

Local Dr caught himself a whopper out at Pyramid Lake on Valentine’s Day.

  2. Got my second dose of the Moderna vaccine on Wednesday. Injection site is a lot more sore this time, sour stomach, diarrhea and some moderate body aches, but overall not too bad. Others I know were down and out for a couple days.

Washoe county seems to be running their site fairly efficiently, took less than 30 minutes both times, including a 15 min waiting period after the shot.

My mom's been battling it since the 90s herself. She's in a a care facility so she can get 24 hour care. This really is great news!

I can definitely relate, mine was in various 24 hour care facilities for about 15 years before she passed at 47. Feel free to DM me here if you ever want to chat about that kind of stuff. I know how difficult it can be.

Attacking a courthouse in Portland is an attack on a government institution, it is nearly as bad as what happened today.

I usually try to stay out of the mud around here, but GTFO with that bullshit. The capital of the free world was breached, that’s nothing remotely close to a courthouse in Portland. Seriously, WTF are you thinking?

they won't. If they do it'll be really, really old sick people whose time it is to pass on. Just like most people that have died from this virus.

I get it, these are sick, old people who were going to die in the next few years anyway. The problem is when it’s accelerated like this and they all die at once, our healthcare infrastructure can’t handle it. Lockdowns were supposed to give our system more time to prepare for the increased volume of hospitalized/ICU patients. If there was no lockdown the entire country would have looked like NYC all at the same time. High population areas that didn’t use the time to prepare are going to look like Italy/Spain/NYC. If high population areas run out of hospital beds because the old, sick people are taking them all up, what happens to the young healthy people who get into a car accident and can’t be treated quickly because there is nowhere to treat them?

We’re likely about to see how it plays out in Arizona because they are at about 80% capacity right now.

We need to be having these conversations because we can’t just lock everyone in their houses, but we also can’t do nothing. You seem like you don’t want to move off the do nothing hill no matter the fatality rate. Would it make a difference if the sick, old people start piling up and die in the waiting rooms or at home because the beds were already taken? How close to the 2 million deaths prediction do we need to get before you come off your hill and meet anyone half way? Or is it ok because they were going to die anyway, so it might as well be now?

The Times photo was misleading (Telephoto lens from a distance).  The accounts It isn't teams and shit, it is common sense.  The sheriff disagrees with Newsom, social distancing was working.  The pictures (Newsom's images) were misleading.

    What’s the camera trick here?

  7. Very anecdotal, but a co-worker started showing symptoms March 14th and was told to self quarantine for two weeks and await further health department guidance. Was tested at the latter part of the two weeks, then received a positive result outside of the two week period. Was told to retest after a number of days past the last symptom, and just tested positive again. Another retest scheduled this weekend.

It can’t be good if that’s happening to others. WTF? Anyone else seeing this in their circle outside of the South Korean reports?

He used a scare tactic, said half the population of California would be infected.

Shortly after one of his lonely aids said (page six material) that his figures were based on if we did nothing.

Scare tactics or not, quick action is likely a big reason why San Francisco doesn’t look like New York right now.

I think an obstacle to converting casinos to hospital overflow is the distance between the two. The garage is right there.

I get that, but what kind of standards need to be incorporated? Yes it’s awfully convenient having a 6 story structure a stones throw away from the hospital, but what kind of standards need to be incorporated regarding floors, HVAC, electrical, sanitation, etc. Are the local contractors equipped for this or should the Army Cops be handling it? (Or are they involved already)

I’d just like to be educated about the situation before I start telling people on campus to STFU about it. IMO at least we have a hospital being pro-active about this and not waiting until they’re already overrun, but on the other hand I hear frontline healthcare workers are about to get taken advantage of on wages.

Being so close to this situation, I’m already hearing lots of bitching regarding the expense of this parking lot-to-medical facility operation (is the plank flooring necessary, why aren’t the Army Corps in charge, are they using Fed funds, etc), because the hospital system also announced pay reductions for some employees today.

I was already curious about possibly converting casinos/hotels to overflow hospitals, but now I’d really like to hear from anyone who might know about the logistics of converting a parking garage to said overflow facility.

One thing to keep in mind is we have been relatively lucky.  Attached is the Covid per 1M residents and CA is an order of Magnitude below New York.  Had Covid gotten into the CA population centers like the New York Metro things would have been ugly.

Good to see someone stand up for the American people.

California’s early measures also helped Nevada from exponential exposure given Reno-Tahoe’s proximity to the Bay Area and Vegas to So-Cal. I also credit Sisolak for making the painful decision to shut down the casinos early. The Vegas strip had the potential to be a catastrophe.

But yeah that would be bad considering where you work is exceptionally vital.  Hopefully you guys are taking every precaution possible.

Nailed it... Now I can watch the construction from my office window. Along with all the damn helicopters coming in.

Which garage did renown close?  The one by the ER or the one off 2nd street?

Well I was trying to talk in generalities Mr. Mug, but it’s the Mill street garage. Only two entry doors open to patients and employees starting tomorrow.

You happen to know what I do... And I’m one of about 12 left in my office who’s actually reporting for duty in person. If any of my employers get seriously compromised we’re in a world of hurt my man.

According to this model Nevada is going to be short 60 ICU beds. Given the transient nature of Nevada, that’s probably not bad.  I had a friend who knows somebody that works for the local hospital in Reno and they’re expecting the peak in deaths in the next 6-7 days

    https://covid19.healthdata.org/projections

Unfortunately that was just updated to project a 305 ICU bed shortage. Thought most of that will likely be in Clark county.

So far in Reno it’s been a bit unusual that the smallest hospital has the most volume of serious cases. We’re in the “calm before the storm” but I can tell you the major hospitals in town have been preparing for weeks.

In my personal opinion locally, we should have the hospital capacity to weather the storm, so it’s more about PPE available to ensure our medical staff stays safe through the duration. If doctors, PA’s/nurse practitioners and nurses have to quarantine, or are hospitalized themselves, all bets are off.

Then main hospital in town just closed their 6 story parking garage today. My semi-educated guess leads me to believe it’ll be used as a “hospital tent”.

It looks like there was a delay in reporting yesterday and today. Still deaths appear to be on the decline.

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

There are notes at the bottom of the page with more info.

Due to delayed and incomplete reporting from New York State, we had to make adjustments to yesterday's totals in order to maintain the correct attribution of historical figures. US figures for Sunday, March 29 could still be incomplete.

Correct. I heard today that if we can just trim the doubling time to 8 days it makes a remarkable difference downstream on the resultant burden to our healthcare infrastructure.

My wife and I spent $700 at Costco this morning. Arrived at 0700. We won't have to reprovision until July. Also got Charmin like a f*cking boss.

And yes, these are very weird times. The entire paradigm has shifted very suddenly. Just remember...

    restau-pe-when-the-going-gets-weird-the-

And after standing in line to get rationed toilet paper, I think my wife and I have now become professional hunter-gatherers.

My 10 year old entrepreneur gave us a good laugh the other day. Given my roots we’re typically always stocked with a modest supply of essentials, rotating supplies from house, to camping, to emergency. Anyway, she sees the line for TP at Costco and figures she can acquire a pack before it’s gone. We tell her we’re definitely good, but she pulls some crumpled cash from her pocket and says she would like to buy one. She waits in line politely and patiently, allowing a few line-cutters because she’s done the math.

She gets her pack, pays out-of-pocket, and carries it out on her own. At that point I knew some kind of hustle was soon to follow. Turns out she wants to “go to market” with her homemade slime creations during spring break and figured she’d give away a free roll of TP with every slime purchase at her slime stand. (25 cents each). And if they don’t sell she’ll “donate the rest“.

Proud moment if I do say so myself.
