  1. fwiw, lon quit trying. if he had put half the effort into unlv the last few years he was here as he apparently is now at oklahoma, he wouldn't have been feeling the heat that he was. he knew his time was limited at unlv and it had nothing to do with low scores. the rebs were being LAUGHED at during the last game he coached, and he had reached a plateau over the last couple of years he was here. i remember fans on a different board BEGGING for him to play 2 bigs at one time, just for a couple of minutes. but he couldn't, because he didn't ever go out and recruit them. i get the small ball, and i'm not opposed to it, in certain situations it is the RIGHT choice, but it is nice to have the option. but i loved his defense. i think lon had taken the rebs as far as he could, he is a great rebuilder, and i thank him heartily for the progress he made at unlv, and wish him well at oklahoma. but i do find myself very ticked off at times this year that he didn't do here what he is doing there. i also think that many fans are looking back and thinking he was better than he was here, because of where we are now. but i was not sorry to see him move on, it was time, he had done as much as he was going to do here. just my opinion.
  2. Ha, I thought of that, bring him in and get Vaughn to stay 1 more year... But it isn't happening, rice will get another year, and the only way hoiberg would leave Iowa st right now would be for a big chunk of change... Another thing... If a player doesn't feel like playing, you're gonna know it within the first 5 minutes. Sit him down. And leave him there. I don't care if they lose, I would rather see that player on the bench and lose, cause they're going to lose anyway. I don't care if the walk ons play the entire game. As a matter of fact, I kinda like rushman's game. And They'll go after loose balls.
  3. Ha, I actually would have liked Bruce pearl...
  4. Why disappear? You contribute to this board, even if Hawaii isn't in the mw for other sports. Stick around...
  5. And down went Arizona...
  6. yeah i don't think duke drops at all, but i think since wisconsin lost to RUTGERS, lol, they might drop a couple. louisville 1 or 2. i guess everybody can drop a game they shouldn't, ha, i bet it was!
  7. couple of changes in the top 5 today. duke and wisconsin both lost.
  8. and so will i...he won't want to get me started, i'll soon be talking like you, lol.
  9. they did, and i hope adjustments will be made. as a matter of fact, i would like to see the rebs do more of those. overall, the rebs played well, wyo doesn't miss many free throws. shyatt said they spent this week shooting 100 every day, no talking, because too many games will come down to that. like grabeau said, he told himself he's done this a thousand times before in tough situations and knocked them down. that was the difference in the game...
  10. damn, i'm agreeing with you a lot, lately, lol.
  11. too bad lon didn't retain dave, to recruit for him.
  12. i posted this in the recruiting thread, but getting these recruits is what has kept dave's job to this point. http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/12/21/unlv-commit-derrick-jones-could-win-the-nba-dunk-contest-video/
  13. me too, but different positions. and in a game like last night when no one could hit the basket, why not let him and cornish, even walker give it a shot. yes, cornish put up a bad shot, but so did everybody else.
  14. morgan might have made a difference last night. he makes an occasional mistake, just like the others, but he isn't going to figure it out sitting on the bench.
  15. why such a short rotation? Rice ended up playing an extremely tight rotation, effectively benching Dwayne Morgan and Jordan Cornish in the second half while sticking to a six-man rotation. All five starters (Cody Doolin, Vaughn, Kendrick, Wood and Okonoboh) played 30-plus minutes, and reserve Patrick McCaw played 22. Cornish took (and missed) a quick transition 3-pointer early in the second half and was immediately pulled from the game. He never re-entered, finishing with just five minutes (one in the second half). Dwayne Morgan played 12 minutes (three in the second half) and shot 1-of-4 from the field. The thin rotation seemed to effect the Rebels, who tired down the stretch. Cody Doolin in particular looked gassed, and Utah guard Delon Wright took advantage by driving past Doolin and getting into the lane at will in the second half. Wright finished with a game-high 17 points, and Utah closed the game on a 23-13 run over the final 11 minutes. http://runrebs.com/2014/12/21/offense-nonexistent-in-59-46-loss-to-utah/
  16. i would like to see him shoot more, especially when nobody can buy a basket.
  17. gotta do something. swing the ball, cut to the basket, something.. anything. if shots aren't falling or rimming out (like they did tonight), drive to the basket. MAKE FREE THROWS! this was a winnable game.
  18. he got a flagrant 1 already last week sometime. his pocket got picked and he rode the guy on the fast break and then shoved him to the side as he was shooting. but the fans probably didn't mention that, did they, lol. and yes, their heads would explode if holberg left to come here.
  19. whether it does or not, if unlv doesn't have to spend so much of their own money for football, that frees up an awful lot of cash to be spent on basketball. they could easily afford a new coach for what they save.
  20. what took you so long? 2 things. #1, livengood had dave rice hired before kruger even decided to leave, and #2, if there is an influx of 30 mill, unlv can afford to pay a decent salary to get the coach they need.
  21. again, good post...who are you, lol.
  22. you have seen me post very little about dave rice or how i feel about him, or his recruits. but it is obvious that other coaches wanted these kids, for a reason. so again, you'll have to take it up with them, and don't tell me how i feel about rice, his recruits, unlv, or anybody else.
  23. i wouldn't argue with that. but i guess you can't blame rice for doing that, because it's saved his job so far.
