  1. That was funny. Jay Pal after the tech “I don’t care, I don’t fu**ing care”. Could lip read that lol
  2. There are still important MWC OOC games to be played (SDSU @ Gonzaga, Nevada/TCU, Wyoming/BYU) but I thought we'd go ahead and rank how we think it looks at end of year, here is my version: 1. SDSU- Maybe this is me being a homer, but SDSU has the best HC (there are other good ones don't get me wrong), one of the 2 best players, a strong second option, and Trammell/Butler won't keep shooting this bad. This is a very dangerous offensive team with higher offensive upside but isn't as good defensively as last year. 2. CSU- In the end I think Medved deserves a bit of a pass for the weirdness of last year. CSU has one of the two best players in the conference, a improved defense, and solid role players around stevens like Nique Clifford/Patrick Cartier. Size will be the large question here both from rim protection and rebounding perspective. 3. Nevada- In the end the biggest reason for me having Nevada over UNM is even though I think UNM's raw talent is better I trust Steve Alford more than Richard Pitino. Nevada is one of the most experienced teams in the country (6th by kenpom's metric), they have played together a lot. They have studs (Lucas/Blacksheer) and role players (Davidson/Hymes/Coleman/Foster), they are a big team that can defend. The one question and it is a big one is if they have enough shooting they are 241st in 3 point percentage and outside the top 300 in 3 point rate. 4. New Mexico- I think there is a unlikely scenario where UNM wins the conference I also think there is a scenario where they fall apart, finish 7th and Pitino is on the hot seat. When fully healthy UNM has one of the most talented backcourts in the country, House/Mashburn/Dent/Baker/washington is a ridiculous backcourt rotation. JT Toppin has had a terrific start to his career. There are all the pieces here, can Richard Pitino put it together? I have my doubts 5. Boise State- To be honest if not for Leon Rice consistently killing conference expectations I'd probably have them at 7. They lack a true go to guy, Rice has had a awful start to the year, Degenhart/Agbo are good pieces. The defense is still solid and they are big. Rice and boise will find a way to win games they probably shouldn't as he does yearly. 6. Utah State- Yeah idk what to say here, Utah State is by far my most surprising team in the conference, they turned over the entire roster, brought in a new HC (granted one with solid success) and look like a good team. Ian Martinez is a stud, as is Mason Falslev who will compete for FOY in the conference, all that being said the shooting is a huge question. They are shooting 28.8% from 3 on very low volume, offense will likely have their struggles against the better teams in the conference. 7. UNLV- I considered UNLV as high as 5, it is clear they are a different team than they were early in the year. Kalib Boone is one of the better bigs in the conference, Keylan gives them some added depth, and Dedan continues to improve. They aren't big and don't get to free throw line at all which are the biggest questions from a roster perspective, they aren't a terribly athletic bunch and it is fair to have questions of Kevin Kruger. Still this is a solid team that has improved since november 8. SJSU- After a solid season opening win against Irvine I was feeling good about them. It's been largely disappointing since (though a solid win against santa clara yesterday). They are incredibly reliant on 3 players who barely sit in competitive games: Cardenas, Amey, and Tibet, They take lot of threes and shoot it decently but not great (35% on 59th highest three point rate). Miles is obviously a good coach so i don't totally rule out them finishing higher. But as of now there is a serious gap between whoever you have 7th and SJSU 9. Fresno State- We know the deal, Justin Hutson seems like a dead man walking right now. They have some pieces but like usual he isn't getting as much from them as he should. 10. AFA- Rytis Petraitis recently coming back should get them more competitive as season goes along but not a ton outside of him going for them. Heidbreder was a major loss (I believe he is currently hurt but is at clemson) 11. Wyoming- They don't shoot many threes but shoot em well this is because they only really have 2 guys that even try threes but they have shot it well.
  3. Also given kent state’s history of being consistently dreadful what he did at kent state was very impressive. Not saying this is a can’t fail hire but I like it
  4. And colorado’s offense got worse after his play calling duties were stripped
  5. Kind of hard to win if you don't score, hopefully UNLV can understand that
  6. Generally the pricing isn’t that bad on secondary market however it might change a bit after the tourney run last year
  7. If i remember correctly that largely fell apart cause of the defense, offense had its moments
  8. 1. AFA 2. Fresno 3. Wyoming 4. Boise 5. UNLV 6. CSU 7. USU 8. SJSU 9. SDSU 10. UNM 11. Hawaii Only the top 3 are actually good
  9. Some thoughts on teams/how I would have it 1. SDSU- Even with significant losses in Mensah/Bradley/Arop/Seiko etc... they actually have a decent amount of returning minutes. The starting backcourt is back and I think with a year of understanding the system and how SDSU wants to play Trammell will take a considerable step forward. Ledee is a solid albeit not great defender like Mensah and isn't much of a rim deterrent so the defensive scheme will be altered slightly. As the season goes on I expect Reese Dixon Waters to establish himself as the go to offensive option. Of course dutcher is a terrific coach and will adjust as needed, They will play smaller than last year. 2. Boise- I believe New Mexico to be the more talented team but think Leon Rice deserves the benefit of the doubt with how consistent Boise has been under him. Degenhart/Rice/Agbo form a nice core with a mixture of defense/shooting, Omar Stanley gives them a rotation big that can defend. Lets see if Roddie can be more efficient in a better offensive system. 3. New Mexico- Make no mistake about it, New Mexico is loaded with top 25 level talent. Backcourt is ridiculous with House/Mashburn + incoming Baker, lot of shooting there. Dent showed flashes as a freshman too, they added a solid transfer big in Nelly Joseph, solid defender and finisher. We will see how he fits in, where New Mexico is behind Boise/SDSU by a good bit is coaching imo, Pitino and UNM fell apart down the stretch of season and made silly mistakes far more often than Boise/SDSU do. At times it looks like they have no plan offensively and when the trap doesn't work they are lost. 4. Nevada- Nevada has a ton of experience and continuity, while last year was undoubtedly a failure Alford has done a good job in the MWC consistently and they certainly have talent to turn it around. Lucas is one of the better players in the conference, blackshear is very good and Coleman is a very good glue guy. The return of KJ hymes will be huge for them if he is at the same level post injury (or better), they need that interior athleticism. He is very solid. 5. Colorado State- Have the best player in conference and better defensive talent around him this year. Javonte Johnson's defense in particular should be big for them, terrific glue guy and Jalen Lake looks ready to take a step. A lot rides on how much the defense improves. 6. UNLV-UNLV is a lot more talented than last year, but I'm not sure they will be much better. Continuity is a huge thing in CBB and they have next to none, Jalen Hill has a decent chance to be a all conference piece, Cottrell is very talented as well but I am rather skeptical of a coach without much success putting together a team of transfers. 7. SJSU-SJSU has one of the best coaches in the conference, the offense will look a lot different without Omari Moore but they still have some decent pieces in Cardenas/Trey/Viohika, hopefully Adrame can be the real deal and provide some rim protection. 8. AFA- I know AFA over USU will surprise some USU fans. Imo Rytis Petraitis is the best kept secret in the conference, and is in for a absolute monster season, they also have some other decent pieces in Ethan Taylor/Beau Beck 9. USU- I know USU fans in this thread have said there teams have often overachieved and that is true. But they have a new HC and new players so I don't think it is very relevant. I do think Sprinkle is a solid hire but he is relying on a lot of Montana State players now playing at a higher level and some transfer turnover outside of that. 10. Fresno State- By now it is obvious Hutson is in over his head, some guys are just good assistants/bad HC's and he seems to fill into that bucket. Isaiah Pope was a nice transfer get for them and Isaiah Hill can score. There are some other decent pieces that I think could really get better under other HC's (Eduardo Andre in particular) 11. Wyoming- This is a full on rebuild job, Relying on the likes of Wenzel/Kenny Foster to lead your team will be tough
  10. If you like bad football teams this game will be a doozy for you
  11. He wanted to play for a winning program, not one whose last relevance is 3 decades ago. Who can blame him?
  12. Nice commit but does say he will continue to take recruiting trips
  13. Interesting Boise got Sandraque Nganga. He was at one time a 5 star recruit, his stock has fallen to where he’s more of a fringe top 100 guy. Seems like a good get
  14. Doutrive will immediately be boise's best defender
  15. nice get, much higher on this guy than akot.
  16. Shockingly hiring a unqualified HC from HS with no college experience isn't working out.
  17. No, just this year, where did you get that from?
  18. Yes the conference as a whole is headed in the right direction, SDSU definitely had a disappointing MAUI tournament, but still have mid level OOC games left that will show if they have a chance of an at large bid. As is only Nevada is in a good position.
  19. Watched the second half, fresno is definitely headed in the right direction.
  20. That seemed like a long half time break
  21. oh man he almost broke that tackle
