But that's kind of gotta go hand in hand, no? At least for the more "high pressure" religions like Mormon, Jehovah Witness, etc. If you stop attending, odds are it's a pretty good chance you stop identifying as a member of that religion.

Maybe for those ones, but most of the less stringent ones will have them at least say they identify.  Most folks I know say they are Christian but never go.  Many Jewish folks I know rarely go as well, but still do the traditional holiday meals and cite prayers then.  Maybe it is tradition more than faith?

  2. No shame on being dead wrong.  This is just their way.  Lie, lie, lie. Get caught lying, move to the next lie.  It is about inundation of lies, not about being right.  And when in the 100 lies, one may be close to a point, make it the biggest issue in the nation.  They are still looking for a DEI (which means any minority or woman)-created incident after fumbling so many lies on it so far.  Just watch that shit show take flight.  With no independent candidate that hasn't ventured into strange territory this could easily turn bad for the GOP.  And it would be their fault.  And to Biden, again, no less.  Fix your shit GOP.

I think there is more too it.  I've seen it.

The work of Dr. Suart Hameroff and Sir Rodger Penrose on quantum consciousness is fascinating.  @TheSanDiegan and I have talked at lengths about in on here before.

How and why does the wave function collapse when observed?  What is so special about conscious observation?  Can consciousness become quantumly entangled with the surrounding fabric of space time?  What are the natures of the extra dimensions postulated in string and M theory?  We don't really know, nor do we know if our laws of physics would be similar inside say a looped string dimension?

We are learning more and more how much we do not know about the Big Bang Theory.  In fact, the scientific community has never been more fractured on the origin of the universe, which is EXCITING!!!

I know enough to know I know nothing, which leaves open so much.

Which would build on the our limited understanding or grasp of it all.  So maybe the last bit of what we can actually understand is merely a precursor of what is to come.  Either way, we can only use what we think we know.  One open of a switch could trigger a breaker to flip elsewhere, and there we will have those lights switch on.  The only fact we know is that this vessel will not be used when the things we know do happen (death), happen.   Either way, I do hope for a nice trip (first one) when the end of the known comes.

You don’t have to attend church or love Jesus or believe in a supreme being to be a moral and ethical person.

Personally I have a hard time believing this time spent on earth was for naught. I’m going to be very disappointed if I don’t reunite with my family and get some answers on what this life on earth was all about when I die.

When all the body's psychedelic chemicals course through you your body in the final moments, maybe you will, and in our last moment of comfort, that is what it is.  The life flashing and seeing your loved one moments do sorta look like a good trip.

Considering the FBI is involved, I'm guessing punishable hate crimes.

Definitely is a crime in Idaho per the local radio station. They read the statute and it definitely falls under what transpired.

Fair enough.  I would be fine with a public shaming, but feds gonna fed.

Here's the latest on the investigation.  From CNN. Looks like it will be a minute considering multiple agencies are involved and Utah players are back home.

    Police have opened an investigation.

“At the time of the report, we were unable to speak to any of the potential victims of the incident, nor were we able to locate individuals who yelled the racial slurs,” Coeur d’Alene police chief Lee White said at a news conference on Tuesday.

“The Coeur d’Alene Police Department has an open case in this matter, and detectives are attempting to speak with any victims of this incident. But so far, we don’t know exactly who that may be. It was initially reported that there was approximately 100 people who were in the vicinity of the incident when it occurred.

“We are working cooperatively with our partners at the FBI because there are federal statutes that may be appropriately charged based on what actually occurred.”

A police spokesperson told CNN on Wednesday that it is working with the University of Utah to conduct interviews."

In all honesty, why?  What crime was truly committed.  If true, I don't think calling someone a racial slur is a chargeable offense without a threat.  I don't mind someone being publicly called to the floor and face the social consequence for their actions, but seems like a dog and pony show with a full-blown investigation.

  7. And sort of to both @halfmanhalfbronco and @retrofade's point, I don't need to go to a church if i have a question on faith.  If I am reading a Bible at home, and have a "how do I interpret this" scenario, why go to a church, slog through an hour of service that may be completely disinteresting for what my mindnis on that day, just to talk to one pastor?  I can just google and get many interpretations of the text from numerous faith-based sites.  Time-saver and more direct answers.  I see how though studies show less attendance of places of worship, it hasn't shown less identification of faith itself.

I wonder how much of that is due to people congregating less in general?  We were more likely to seek out community and fellowship before smart phones and social media.

Same issues as most Lodges, IOOF's, KofC's, etc.  And also, the working class is forced to be mobile, so lasting community relationships are fractured.  Of which, I assume the church is the most personal.  My sister and dad are exponentially more tied to their faith than I am, but with both having moved from their familiar setting, they are not attending as regularly because it is too clique-ish at times.  I am attending Easter service with my dad at a church a block from my house.  He likes it because the pastor is from close to his hometown, but otherwise he has said he doesn't go like he used to, and my sister does televised service.

I sold at 69. It is currently trading around 65.

I am seeing numerous articles saying the valuation is even more.  I think these are paid for, and this is a strong squeeze of the stone to get the idiots who will buy and hold.  Timing would make sense to pay the bill with this strategy.  If that is the case, you got out at the right time.  Nice score.  I thought about it, but nah.

I must say, I truly have a hard time deciding if you just like to argue with people or it's that you just will defend your boy trump no matter what he might say or do.  The man is truly a gem.

Either way it's moot because we all know it doesn't matter who the president of the US is ...

He isn't saying an incorrect statement.  People are willing to give their idol money for a Bible that has a political bound tied directly in it that delineates a sense of moral superiority in their eyes.  And pay for it.  Going against both the political Founders, and the Bible itself.

Let them do it, and let those who support it, support it.  They let you know who they are in as blatant a manner as can be.

The ACC's actual problem is Louisville's downfall. They have been so bad in recent years that just playing them hurts the rest of the conference's metrics. The ACC can't force Louisville to hire a good coach (or force a good coach to go there) but with FSU and Clemson breathing down their necks, they have to look like they're doing something to improve their position - so they're making a change for the sake of change.

Now add SMU, Stanford and Cal.  A whole lot of anchors.  Going 18 absolutely makes sense with now half the conference being mediocre to bad.
